Interfaith Partners Of South Carolina
Interfaith Partners of South Carolina (IPSC) is an organization formed in 2010 to promote better understanding among people of the many religious, spiritual, and secular-ethical traditions throughout South Carolina. History In a state often noted for its predominantly conservative and religiously Christian population, Interfaith Partners of South Carolina works to draw public attention to the broad diversity of religious, spiritual and secular-ethical traditions and practice in South Carolina. Regional affiliated chapters include Aiken and Florence. Initially, IPSC held meetings of an advisory committee drawn from around the state, occasional panel discussions, festivals, and book studies. Additionally, as an effort to recruit wider participation in the Charter For Compassion, there was a project of author and religious studies pertaining to scholar Karen Armstrong. Karen Armstrong
Karen Armstrong (born 14 November 1944) is a British author and commentator of Irish Catholic descent known for her books on comparative religion. A former Roman Catholic religious sister, she went from a conservative to a more liberal and mystical Christian faith. She attended St Anne's College, Oxford, while in the convent and majored in English. She left the convent in 1969. Her work focuses on commonalities of the major religions, such as the importance of compassion and the Golden Rule. Armstrong received the US$100,000 TED Prize in February 2008. She used that occasion to call for the creation of a Charter for Compassion, which was unveiled the following year. Henry Dargan McMaster (born May 27, 1947) is an American politician and attorney serving as the 117th governor of South Carolina since January 24, 2017. He is a member of the Republican Party. McMaster worked for U.S. senator Strom Thurmond, in private practice, and as a federal prosecutor. Appointed United States attorney for the District of South Carolina by President Ronald Reagan in 1981, he gained attention for investigating South Carolina marijuana smugglers in Operation Jackpot. McMaster was the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in South Carolina in 1986, losing to incumbent Democrat Fritz Hollings. The Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, often referred to as Mother Emanuel, is a church in Charleston, South Carolina. Founded in 1817, Emanuel AME is the oldest African Methodist Episcopal church in the Southern United States.
