The Institute of Contemporary Art San José (ICA) is a nonprofit art center and gallery founded in 1980, and located in the SoFA District of Downtown San Jose, California, U.S. It supports contemporary artists working in painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, new media works and site-specific installations. ICA San José is member and community supported. The art center offers rotating art exhibitions with free admission, along with public programs, education programs, and community events. Charles Ginnever
Charles Albert Ginnever (August 28, 1931 – June 16, 2019), was an American sculptor known primarily for large-scale abstract steel sculptures that defy simple understanding, as the works seem to constantly change form as one moves around them in time and space. Early life Charles Albert Ginnever was born in San Mateo, California, August 28, 1931. In 1953 he traveled to Paris, where he attended classes taught by the sculptor Ossip Zadkine at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. His European tour lasted two years, during which time he travelled throughout France and Italy and absorbed as much as he could from the many museums he visited. Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco (ICA SF) is an American contemporary art museum that opened in October 2022, and is located in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Admission is free. About The Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco is a non-collecting institution with a 11,000-square-foot gallery space that opened in October 2022, funded through Silicon Valley-based donors. Alison "Ali" Gass is an American curator and museum director. She is the founding director of the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco. She has served as the director of the Institute of Contemporary Art San José, Smart Museum of Art, and chief curator of the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University. Alan Rath (1959–2020) was an American electronic, kinetic, and robotic sculptor. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1982, with a BS electrical engineering. Amy Ellingson
Amy Ellingson (born 1964) is an American contemporary abstract painter. She is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and currently lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Education Ellingson received a BA in Studio Art from Scripps College and an MFA from CalArts. Career From 2000 to 2011, Ellingson taught at the San Francisco Art Institute, attaining the rank of associate professor.
