The Institute for Comparative Research in Human Culture ( no, Instituttet for sammenlignende kulturforskning) is a humanities research institute based in Oslo, Norway. It was established in 1922 by Fredrik Stang. An independent institute, its task is to sponsor research mainly in the fields of comparative linguistics, folklore, religion, ethnology, archaeology and ethnography. It shares localities with the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. The board of directors consists of Per Kværne (chair), Arne Bugge Amundsen, Ivar Børklund, Tove Fjell, Ingar Kaldal, Svein Mønnesland and Aud Talle. Aud Talle (23 September 1944 – 16 August 2011) was a Norwegian social anthropologist. She graduated as mag.art. (PhD equivalent) from the University of Oslo and as fil. dr. from Stockholm University. Svein Karl Mønnesland (born 26 October 1943) is a Norwegian Slavist. He was born in Skien. Since 1979 he teaches as a professor of Slavic languages at the University of Oslo. He is considered an expert in Serbo-Croatian (Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian), and has written numerous books and articles on Serbo-Croatian, Slavic linguistics, literature and cultural history. However, his approach to the South Slavic languages has been met with criticism. Per Kværne (born 1 April 1945) is a Norwegian tibetologist and historian of religion. Biography Per Kværne was born in Oslo, Norway.
