Inside The Lines (1930 Film)
''Inside the Lines'' is a 1930 American Pre-Code Hollywood, pre-Code spy drama film starring Betty Compson, Ralph Forbes, and Mischa Auer. It was directed by Roy Pomeroy (who also was the associate producer) from a screenplay by John Farrow and Ewart Adamson, which in turn was based on the 1915 Broadway play of the same name by Earl Derr Biggers. This version is a remake of the Inside the Lines (1918 film), 1918 silent version, also with the same name. This film exists in the public domain because the claimants did not renew the copyright after 28 years. Plot Jane Gershon is engaged to Eric Woodhouse, living in Germany prior to the onset of World War I. When the war breaks out, they are forced to separate, but are reunited months later in Gibraltar, at the British fortress there. Roy Pomeroy
Roy Pomeroy (April 20, 1892 – September 3, 1947) was an American special effects artist and film director. One of the only three technicians that founded the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, he was awarded the Academy Award for Engineering Effects for the film ''Wings'' at the 1st Academy Awards. Biography Pomeroy's career began during the silent era, when he worked as a special effects engineer for Famous Players-Lasky and its successor studio Paramount Pictures. For 1923's ''The Ten Commandments,'' Pomeroy designed the parting of the Red Sea sequence and an effect in which the commandments appeared in letters of flame.Walker, Alexander. The World Film Company or World Film Corporation was an American film production and distribution company, organized in 1914 in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Short-lived but significant in American film history, World Film was created by financier and filmmaker Lewis J. Selznick in Fort Lee, where many early film studios in America's first motion picture industry were based in the early part of the 20th century. Formation World Film was to be the distribution arm for three main production companies: Selznick's own production company called Equitable Pictures, Jules Brulatour's Peerless Pictures, and the Shubert Pictures production company founded by the strong-willed promoter and entrepreneur William Aloysius Brady. Marguerite Clayton (born Margaret Fitzgerald; April 12, 1891 – December 20, 1968) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 170 films between 1909 and 1928, many of which were westerns with Broncho Billy Anderson and Harry Carey. Biography Margaret Fitzgerald was born in Ogden, Utah, on April 12, 1891 and attended St. Mary's Academy in Salt Lake City, Utah. He father was a mining engineer. In 1909, Clayton made her first films, ''A Mexican's Gratitude'' and ''The Heart of a Cowboy'', with Anderson. Her film career ended in 1928. Her employers included Essanay. Clayton died in Los Angeles, California, in a road accident. She was buried with her husband Major General Victor Bertrandias in Arlington National Cemetery. Wilhelm von Brincken (May 27, 1881 – January 18, 1946), also known as Wilhelm L. von Brincken, William Vaughn, William von Brinken, and William Vaughan, was a German diplomat and spy during World War I, who went on to become an American character actor of the silent and talkie eras. Personal life Von Brincken was born on May 27, 1881 in Flensburg, Germany. His father was a German diplomat from Prussia, as well as being a baron. While a student at Military Telegraph School in Berlin, he engaged in a sword duel. While he won, the event left him with a permanent facial scar.
