Inquisition (punk Band)
Inquisition was an American punk rock band from Richmond, Virginia, United States. They influenced the local scene, and several members went on to form other bands such as Strike Anywhere, River City High, and Ann Beretta. The band was formed in 1991 when some of the band members were still in high school. In 1992 the original bass player, Leer Baker, left the band and was replaced by Rob Huddleston. They recorded their first full-length album, ''Broken Songs'', and appeared on several 7 inch records and compilations. Their most well-known recording, ''Revolution, I Think It's Called Inspiration'', was released in early 1996 on Pop A Wheelie Records and was re-released in October 2005 on A-F Records. Their final show was on September 8, 1996, at the Biograph Theatre in Richmond, Virginia with AFI and The Pee Tanks. Post-hardcore
Post-hardcore is a punk rock music genre that maintains the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk but emphasizes a greater degree of creative expression. It was initially inspired by post-punk and noise rock. Like post-punk, the term has been applied to a broad constellation of groups. Post-hardcore began in the 1980s with bands like Hüsker Dü and Minutemen (band), Minutemen. The genre expanded in the 1980s and 1990s with releases by bands from cities that had established hardcore scenes, such as Fugazi from Washington, D.C. as well as groups such as Big Black and Jawbox that stuck closer to post-hardcore's noise rock roots. A-F Records is an American independent record label founded by punk rock band Anti-Flag and based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was created to help expose more political punk bands to a larger audience. The label's offices were damaged when a September 2004 flood hit Pittsburgh. No Idea Records
No Idea Records is an American independent record label based in Gainesville, Florida which focuses on punk rock and its sub-styles and produces both vinyl records and compact discs. The label also organizes The Fest, an independently operated annual festival known for featuring over 250 punk, pop punk, country, heavy metal, indie rock, avant-garde and other musical acts across many venues for 3 days in Gainesville each fall. No Idea Records started not as a record label, but as a zine in 1985, published independently by Var Thelin and Ken Coffelt and some friends of theirs from high school. By the seventh issue in 1989, Var was running the zine with Sarah Dyer and other contributors and collaborators. Starting with the sixth edition, the No Idea zine included 7-inch records with each issue. Thomas Barnett (musician)
Thomas Barnett (born March 3, 1973) is an American singer-songwriter born in Richmond, Virginia. He is best known for being the singer for the melodic hardcore band Strike Anywhere. Barnett has been the vocalist and lyricist for the band since its formation in 1999. He was also the vocalist and primary lyricist for the band Inquisition until its disbanding in 1996. Inquisition reformed for a three show reunion event in May 2007. Strike Anywhere plays about twenty five shows a year between Europe and the United States-special events, benefit shows and festivals mostly-and remains an active band despite slowing down its recording and touring schedule. Thomas also formed a melodic hardcore project based on the West Coast called Great Collapse with ex-members of Rise Against and Set Your Goals among others. Strike Anywhere
Strike Anywhere is an American punk rock band from Richmond, Virginia. Formed in 1999 after the demise of frontman Thomas Barnett's previous band, Inquisition, they took their name from the Inquisition song "Strike Anywhere". Their music is characterized by fast tempos, catchy melodies, and emotionally charged vocals delivered via shouting and singing. The band received an increased amount of attention after their music appeared in three Tony Hawk video games: ''Tony Hawk's Underground'' in 2003 ("Refusal"), ''Tony Hawk's American Wasteland'' in 2005 ("Question the Answer"), and ''Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam'' in 2006 ("The Promise"). River City High
River City High is an American Rock music, rock band from Richmond, Virginia, United States. Like many Richmond Punk rock, punk bands, they incorporate other influences into their music, specifically classic rock. They formed out of the bands Fun Size (band), Fun Size and Inquisition (punk band), Inquisition, the latter also including members who would form Strike Anywhere and Ann Beretta. They released their debut EP in 2000 on Big Wheel Recreation, and quickly signed to Doghouse Records thereafter. Ann Beretta
Ann Beretta was a punk rock band from Richmond, Virginia. Formed in 1996 by Rob Huddleston, Leer Baker, Chris Rupp and Russ Jones (Baker and Rupp later left), the band plays straightforward punk with small doses of rockabilly and country mixed into their sound. The band spent several years on tour playing with bands including Hot Water Music, ALL, the Bouncing Souls, Less Than Jake and city-mates Avail. They have released albums on Fueled by Ramen and Lookout! Records. However, after their 2001 release ''New Union Old Glory'', they left Lookout! to release their next album on with Canadian label Union Label Group. In late 2004, Ann Beretta disbanded until 2012, when they toured Europe and the UK in support of ''Wild, Young, and Free'' - an LP released exclusively in Europe by Gunnar Records and made up of demos and outtakes.
