Innocent Blood (novel)
''Innocent Blood'' (1980) is an English crime novel by P. D. James. Unlike her Adam Dalgliesh mysteries it is not a detective story but closer to a psychological thriller and was the first of James' novels to step outside the detective genre. (She had published a non-fiction account of a real crime, '' The Maul and the Pear Tree'', in 1971.) It follows the story of a young woman searching for her biological roots, having known since childhood that she was adopted, and the dark truths that she uncovers. Synopsis Philippa Palfrey was adopted as a child and grows up being taught that she was the illegitimate daughter of an aristocrat. When she turns eighteen she decides to use her legal right to pursue the truth of her origins, but places herself in danger when her missions come up against the interests of people who'd rather she never find out who she is. ''Innocent Blood'' is the ninth studio album, by American Christian rock band Resurrection Band (known at this point as "Rez"), released in 1989. Background The hard rock on ''Innocent Blood'' is even more blues-based than Rez' previous outing, as evidenced by "Child of the Blues", "Great God in Heaven", and the brief opening track, "Rooster Crow", an acoustic blues number which would be fleshed out into a complete song many years later for the Glenn Kaiser Band's 2001 album, ''Carolina Moon''. The remainder of the album edges closer to heavy metal, as evidenced by "Altar of Pain" and "80,000 Underground". The band also covers the song "Bargain", originally recorded by The Who, which became a No. 1 hit on Christian rock radio. In addition, "Where Roses Grow" became a concert favorite among long-time Rez fans.
