Ingrid Skjoldvær
Ingrid Skjoldvær (born 8 August 1993) is a Norwegian environmentalist and a former chairperson of the environmental organisation Nature and Youth. She comes from Sortland in Vesterålen and has held several positions in the organisation, most recently as deputy chairman, before she was elected as head of the organisation on 10 January 2016, a position she held until 2017. Environmental action Skjoldvær was involved in the actions against Nordic Mining's planned mining project at Førdefjorden in February 2016. Outside this event, she has been particularly involved in Nature and Youth's action against oil. Skjoldvær has also been employed in the environmental foundation Bellona as a senior oil advisor, and in the past has sat on the National Board of the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature from 2015 to 2017. Sortland
or is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Vesterålen. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Sortland. Other population centres in Sortland include Bø, Holand, Holmstad, Liland, Sigerfjord, Strand, and Vik. The Norwegian Coast Guard has its northern base in Sortland, called ''Kystvaktskvadron Nord''. In 1997, the municipal council declared " town status" for the urban area of Sortland. Sortland is the largest town and commercial centre in Vesterålen. The town of Sortland is located close to the Sortland Bridge which crosses the Sortlandsundet strait and connects the two large islands of Langøya and Hinnøya by road. Senja
or is an island in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway, Europe. With an area of , it is the second largest island in Norway (outside of the Svalbard archipelago). It has a wild, mountainous outer (western) side facing the Atlantic, and a mild and lush inner (eastern) side. The island is located within Senja Municipality, which was established on 1 January 2020. The island of Senja had 7,864 inhabitants as of 1 January 2017. Most of the residents live along the eastern coast of the island, with Silsand being the largest urban area on the island. Lofoten
Lofoten () is an archipelago and a traditional district in the county of Nordland, Norway. Lofoten has distinctive scenery with dramatic mountains and peaks, open sea and sheltered bays, beaches and untouched lands. There are two towns, Svolvær and Leknes – the latter is approximately north of the Arctic Circle and approximately away from the North Pole. The archipelago experiences one of the world's largest elevated temperature anomalies relative to its high latitude. Petroleum Exploration In The Arctic
The exploration of the Arctic for petroleum is considered to be quite technically challenging. However, recent technological developments, the melting of Arctic permafrost, as well as relatively high oil prices, have allowed for exploration. As a result, the region has received significant interest from the petroleum industry. Since the onset of the 2010s oil glut in 2014, the commercial interest in Arctic exploration has declined.
