Inferno (Tangerine Dream Album)
''Inferno'' is the seventy-third release and twelfth live album by German electronic group Tangerine Dream. It is the first live album to feature new compositions since '' 220 Volt Live'' (1993). The lyrical content is based on the first part of the Italian narrative poem ''Divine Comedy'' by Dante Alighieri. ''Inferno'' is the first album to feature percussionist Iris Camaa who remained with the group until 2014. Reception Prog Archives described the work as "something of quite astonishing beauty". ''The Times Literary Supplement'' called the work a "musical extravaganza". Tangerine Dream used the album as a modern soundtrack for the 1911 Italian silent film ''L'Inferno''. Nick Hasted in ''The Independent'' wrote that while the film was a "fascinating relic", with their soundtrack "Tangerine Dream add momentum and even melodrama, restricting themselves at times to dark, low strings." Tangerine Dream
Tangerine Dream is a German electronic music band founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese. The group has seen many personnel changes over the years, with Froese having been the only constant member until his death in January 2015. The best-known lineup of the group was its mid-1970s trio of Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann. In 1979, Johannes Schmoelling replaced Baumann. Since Froese's death in 2015, the group has been under the leadership of Thorsten Quaeschning (Froese's chosen successor and the current longest-serving band member, having joined in 2005). He was joined by violinist Hoshiko Yamane in 2011, Ulrich Schnauss in 2014 and Paul Frick in 2020. Tangerine Dream are considered a pioneering act in electronica. ''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Nicknamed the ''Indy'', it began as a broadsheet and changed to tabloid format in 2003. The last printed edition was published on Saturday 26 March 2016, leaving only the online edition. Soprano
A soprano () is a type of classical female singing voice and has the highest vocal range of all voice types. The soprano's vocal range (using scientific pitch notation) is from approximately middle C (C4) = 261 Hz to "high A" (A5) = 880 Hz in choral music, or to "soprano C" (C6, two octaves above middle C) = 1046 Hz or higher in operatic music. A mezzo-soprano or mezzo (; ; meaning "half soprano") is a type of classical female singing voice whose vocal range lies between the soprano and the contralto voice types. The mezzo-soprano's vocal range usually extends from the A below middle C to the A two octaves above (i.e. A3–A5 in scientific pitch notation, where middle C = C4; 220–880 Hz). In the lower and upper extremes, some mezzo-sopranos may extend down to the F below middle C (F3, 175 Hz) and as high as "high C" (C6, 1047 Hz). Jayney Klimek
Jayney Miriam Klimek (born 18 August 1962 in Melbourne, Australia), is a Berlin-based Australian-born singer-songwriter. Early years Jayney Miriam Klimek was born on 18 August 1962 and grew up in Melbourne. Her father, Alfons Klimek, and mother, Luisa née Cester (born January 29, 1916) had eight children: Eugenia, Lydia, Naomi, Greta, Alfons junior (born February 1956), Robert, and Jayney and her twin brother, Johnny. Bianca Froese-Acquaye
Bianca Froese-Acquaye is an artist, author and painter. She is the manager of the band Tangerine Dream. In 2002 she married Tangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese, they remained married until his death in 2015. She performed vocals on the 2002 Tangerine Dream album ''Inferno''. She is the co-author of Edgar Froese's autobiography ''Force Majeure''. Alto
The musical term alto, meaning "high" in Italian (Latin: ''altus''), historically refers to the contrapuntal part higher than the tenor and its associated vocal range. In 4-part voice leading alto is the second-highest part, sung in choruses by either low women's or high men's voices. In vocal classification these are usually called contralto and male alto or countertenor. Such confusion of "high" and "low" persists in instrumental terminology. Alto flute and alto trombone are respectively lower and higher than the standard instruments of the family (the standard instrument of the trombone family being the tenor trombone), though both play in ranges within the alto clef. Kettledrums
Timpani (; ) or kettledrums (also informally called timps) are musical instruments in the percussion family. A type of drum categorised as a hemispherical drum, they consist of a membrane called a head stretched over a large bowl traditionally made of copper. Thus timpani are an example of kettle drums, also known as vessel drums and semispherical drums, whose body is similar to a section of a sphere whose cut conforms the head. Most modern timpani are ''pedal timpani'' and can be tuned quickly and accurately to specific pitches by skilled players through the use of a movable foot-pedal. Jerome Froese
Jerome Froese (born 24 November 1970 in Berlin, Germany) is a German musician who, in 1990, officially joined his father Edgar Froese in the band Tangerine Dream. He remained a member until 2006. Prior to his direct involvement in Tangerine Dream, Froese often appeared on the covers of the band's albums as a child, beginning with the 1973 release of '' Atem'', when he was two years four months old at the time the album was released. Career In 1982, Froese started playing guitar and keyboard. A few years later, in 1985, he began playing drums after he got a drumkit for Christmas. From here, Froese became proficient on both keyboards and guitar, leading up to his induction into Tangerine Dream.
