Indonesian heavy metal or Indonesian metal music are music with the heavy metal genre that developed and emerged from local Indonesian metal bands. In history, the rise of metal music in Indonesia was influenced by the popularity of Indonesian rock music. Several sub-genres of heavy metal in Indonesia are also quite popular, such as thrash metal, death metal, power metal, progressive metal, black metal, and gothic metal which are often performed by local metal bands in Indonesia. Heavy Metal Music
Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distortion (music), distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic Beat (music), beats and loudness. Rotor (band)
Rotor is a thrash metal music band from Jakarta that was formed in 1991 and fronted by Irvan Sembiring. This band's name skyrocketed even more after successfully becoming the supporting act for Metallica's concert for two consecutive days at the Lebak Bulus stadium in Jakarta in 1993. Even though it was formed in Jakarta, Rotor's debut stage was at Taman Topi. In a rock performance held by a private radio in Bogor, this ''thrasher'' quartet appeared together with their metal colleagues from Jakarta, including Atomic and Alien Scream. At that time they were still performing songs belonging to the band from Brazil, namely Sepultura. Anthrax is an American heavy metal band from New York City, formed in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. Sodom (band)
Sodom is a German thrash metal band from Gelsenkirchen, formed in 1981. They have gone through many lineup changes, leaving bassist/vocalist Tom Angelripper as the only constant member. The band is currently composed of Angelripper, guitarists Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik (who was a member of Sodom from 1987 to 1989 and rejoined in 2018) and Yorck Segatz, and drummer Toni Merkel. Kreator is a German thrash metal band from Essen, formed in 1982. Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Miland "Mille" Petrozza, drummer Jürgen "Ventor" Reil, lead guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, and bassist Frédéric Leclercq. The band's lineup has changed multiple times over its -year career, most noticeably with their bassists and lead guitarists. Exodus is an American thrash metal band formed in 1979 in Richmond, California. Their current lineup consists of guitarists Gary Holt and Lee Altus, bassist Jack Gibson, drummer Tom Hunting, and lead vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza. There are no original members left in Exodus other than Hunting, who has departed from the band twice, in 1989 and 2004, but rejoined in 2007. Guruh Gipsy
''Guruh Gipsy'' is a 1976 Indonesian studio album released by Guruh Sukarnoputra in collaboration with the band Gipsy, consisting of Keenan Nasution, Chrisye, Roni Harahap, and Oding Nasution. Mixing modern instruments with traditional Javanese and Balinese music styles, it is now considered a landmark album. In 2007, Rolling Stone Indonesia voted it the second best Indonesian album of all time.
