Indianapolis Weed and Seed is the name of a federal crime control/prevention initiative that serves several Indianapolis neighborhoods. The organization was founded by the city of Indianapolis in the 1990s as a way to address the crime issues that plague inner-city areas. In recent years the Weed and Seed foundation was expanded to cities all over the country, including Broward County, FL. Nine townships form the broadest geographic divisions within Marion County and Indianapolis. Community Capacity Development Office
The Community Capacity Development Office (CCDO) is an office of the United States Department of Justice and a component of the Office of Justice Programs. The mission is to work within local communities to reduce crime and improve the quality of life. The office oversees the Weed and Seed program which was established in 1991, which works to reduce drug abuse, violent crime and gang activity in high-risk neighborhoods. The Weed aspect of the program is to remove all the negative influences in communities. The Seed portion of the program is to bring in new influences that help promote a better quality of life through rehabilitation programs. The Weed and Seed program is no longer funded but its model is used in different community based programs. There are over 300 Weed and Seed locations across the country. Haughville
Haughville is a neighborhood west of downtown Indianapolis. Its borders are roughly White River Parkway to the east, Tibbs Avenue to the west, 16th Street to the north, and Michigan Street to the south. It was first settled in the 1830s and grew after a bridge over White River was built connecting to Indianapolis, which annexed the town in 1897. The modern version of the bridge is also the connection between Haughville on the west side of the river and the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis on the east. The population in the late 1890s included Slovenian, German, and Irish immigrants, among other European immigrants. The Riverside neighborhood is a historic neighborhood on the near west side of Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The housing consists mainly of American foursquare-type homes and bungalows built in the 1910s to 1920s. Seventy-five percent of the homes in the area were built before 1939.
