Indian General Election, 2009 (Odisha)
The Indian general election, 2009 in Odisha were held for 21 seats with the state going to the polls in the first two phases of the general elections. The major contenders in the state were the Third Front, Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The third front parties contesting in the state were the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the Left parties and the Nationalist Congress Party. The assembly elections were held simultaneously with the general elections in the state. A few weeks before the elections, seat sharing talks broke down between the BJD and its long-time ally BJP. Then the BJD joined the Third Front. The BJD leader Naveen Patnaik said that he broke the alliance with BJP over the Kandhamal riots. Third Front in Indian politics refers to various alliances formed by smaller parties at various points of time since 1989 to offer a third option to Indian voters, challenging the Indian National Congress (INC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo
Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo (born 26 May 1974) is an Indian politician who was Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Bolangir and member and leader of the Biju Janata Dal political party. His father, Ananga Udaya Singh Deo, and his grandfather, Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo, were both politicians. Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo was Chief Minister of Odisha. He attended the Doon School, Dehradun and graduated in economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University. He represented India in shooting and basketball. Tathagata Satapathy
Tathagata Satpathy (born 1 April 1956) was a member of the 12th, 14th, 15th and 16th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Dhenkanal constituency of Odisha, and was re-elected for the fourth time in 2014. He was a member of the Biju Janata Dal ( BJD) political party, and the party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha. He took voluntary retirement from politics in March 2019. He is not an active politician ever since. Life and work Tathagata Satpathy is the younger son of former Odisha Chief Minister Nandini Satpathy and Devendra Satpathy. He is the owner and editor of the daily Odia newspaper, '' Dharitri'', and the English daily, ''Orissa Post''. Mohan Jena
Mohan Jena (14 July 1957 – 12 December 2022) was an Indian politician who was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha. He represented the Jajpur Constituency of Odisha and was a member of the Biju Janata Dal political party. In March 2019, he joined Bharatiya Janata Party in presence of Dharmendra Pradhan and Arun Singh. Jena died on 12 December 2022, at the age of 65. Arjun Charan Sethi
Arjun Charan Sethi () (18 September 1941 – June 8, 2020) was an Indian politician who represented Bhadrak constituency in Odisha in Lok Sabha 8 times. Over his career, he belonged first to Congress Party, later to Biju Janata Dal, and finally BJP at the time of his death. In 1971, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bhadrak as a Congress candidate for the first time. He was re-elected in 1980 from the same constituency as an Indian National Congress (I) candidate. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1991 as a Janata Dal candidate from the same constituency. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2009 from the same constituency as a Biju Janata Dal candidate. He was the Union Minister of water resources in Atal Bihari Vajpayee led government from 2000 to 2004. In 2019, he left Biju Janata Dal to join Bharatiya Janata Party with his son Abhimanyu Sethi.
