Indian Hill (Minnesota)
Indian Hill, in section nine of Oscar Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, is a peak in the Leaf Mountains of west-central Minnesota. It is about 3.5 miles southeast of Rothsay, Minnesota, on the east side of Interstate 94. Oscar Township, Minnesota
Oscar Township is a township in Otter Tail County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 218 at the 2000 census. Oscar Township was organized in 1873, and named for Oscar II of Sweden. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.0 square miles (93.4 km), of which 34.6 square miles (89.7 km) is land and 1.4 square miles (3.7 km) (3.91%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 218 people, 79 households, and 65 families residing in the township. The population density was 6.3 people per square mile (2.4/km). There were 96 housing units at an average density of 2.8/sq mi (1.1/km). The racial makeup of the township was 96.33% White, 0.46% African American, 1.83% Asian, and 1.38% from two or more races. Otter Tail County
Otter Tail County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, its population was 60,081. Its county seat is Fergus Falls. Otter Tail County comprises the Fergus Falls micropolitan statistical area. With 1,048 lakes in its borders, Otter Tail County has more lakes than any other county in the United States. History Native Americans used the area for hunting and fishing, and had permanent dwelling sites. Two Native American tribes were in constant conflict. The Dakota (Sioux) were being pushed from their home area by the Ojibwa (Chippewa) during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Burial mounds and artifacts can still be found. Leaf Hills Moraines
The Leaf Hills Moraines, sometimes called the Leaf Mountains, are a range of hills in west-central Minnesota. The land does not exhibit many characteristics of mountains, but nevertheless rises typically to a height of above the surrounding farmland, occasionally reaching higher than . The name of this range of hills is translated from the Ojibwe ''Gaaskibag-wajiwan'', which was interpreted by Gilfillan as “Rustling Leaf Mountains.” The name is also shared by Leaf Mountain Township, the two Leaf Lakes ("''Gaaskibag-wajiwi-zaaga'iganan''"), and the Leaf River ("''Gaaskibag-wajiwi-ziibi''"), all named for the hills. Rothsay, Minnesota
Rothsay is a city in Otter Tail and Wilkin counties in the State of Minnesota. The population was 498 at the 2020 census. One of Rothsay's major tourist attractions is the large prairie chicken statue near the northwest outskirts of the town. The Otter Tail County portion of Rothsay is part of the Fergus Falls Micropolitan Statistical Area, while the Wilkin County portion is part of the Wahpeton, ND—MN Micropolitan Statistical Area. Moraine
A moraine is any accumulation of unconsolidated debris (regolith and rock), sometimes referred to as glacial till, that occurs in both currently and formerly glaciated regions, and that has been previously carried along by a glacier or ice sheet.
