Hawaii
Hawaii ( ; haw, Hawaii or ) is a state in the Western United States, located in the Pacific Ocean about from the U.S. mainland. It is the only U.S. state outside North America, the only state that is an archipelago, and the only state geographically located within the tropics. 1895 Wilcox Rebellion
The 1895 Wilcox rebellion, or the Counter-Revolution of 1895 was a brief war from January 6 to January 9, 1895, that consisted of three battles on the island of Oahu, Republic of Hawaii. It was the last major military operation by royalists who opposed the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Because of its brevity and few casualties, this conflict is largely forgotten; in some cases those who rediscover it coin a new name for the conflict, but it is frequently referred to as the “Counter-revolution”. 2018 Hawaii False Missile Alert
On the morning of Saturday, January 13, 2018, a ballistic missile alert was accidentally issued via the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alert System over television, radio and cellphones in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The alert stated that there was an incoming ballistic missile threat inbound to Hawaii, advised residents to seek shelter, before it concluded: "This is not a drill". The message was sent at 8:07 a.m. local time. Civil defense outdoor warning sirens were not authorized by the state. Thirty-eight minutes and 13 seconds later, state officials blamed a miscommunication during a drill at the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency for the first message. Then-Governor David Ige publicly apologized for the erroneous alert. The 2012 Hawaiian Islands Invitational was an inter-confederation association football tournament contested in February at Aloha Stadium, Hawaii between 4 different clubs from the United States, Japan, South Korea, and Australia. 2012 Hawaii Hailstorm
On the morning of March 9, 2012, a long-lived hailstorm hit the Hawaiian islands of Oahu and Lanai. The hailstorm was produced by a supercell thunderstorm. This event produced the largest hailstone ever recorded in Hawaii since records began in 1950. The hailstone was measured at long, tall, and wide. National Weather Service meteorologist Tom Birchard stated that the event was "unprecedented." In addition to the spectacular early-morning lightning storms and flooding from the of rainfall received, a tornadic waterspout formed off the coast of Oahu during the morning of March 9, 2012. 2006 Kiholo Bay Earthquake
The 2006 Kīholo Bay earthquake occurred on October 15 at with a magnitude of 6.7 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of VIII (''Severe''). The shock was centered southwest of Puakō and north of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, just offshore of the Kona Airport, at a depth of . 2004 Hawaii Bowl
The 2004 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, part of the 2004 bowl game season, took place on Christmas Eve 2004, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. The competing teams were the UAB Blazers, representing Conference USA (C-USA) and the Hawaii Warriors, representing the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Hawaii won the game, 59–40. This was the third Hawaii Bowl, and was sponsored by Sheraton Hotels and Resorts. Teams Hawaii Hawaii finished the 2004 season with an 8–5 record, going 4–4 in WAC play. The Warriors made their third straight appearance in the Hawaii Bowl, facing off against UAB. The Warriors would go on to defeat the Blazers and cap off their third straight winning season, the fifth in six seasons under head coach June Jones. 1999 Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Football Team
The 1999 Hawaii Rainbow Warriors football team represented the University of Hawaii at Manoa in the 1999 NCAA Division I-A football season. Hawaii finished the 1999 season with a 9–4 record, going 5–2 in Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play. The Warriors capped the best single season turnaround in NCAA history with a win in the Oahu Bowl after going 0–12 the year before. New head coach June Jones led the Warriors to their first conference championship and bowl victory since the 1992 season.
