Independent (Kuokoa) Party
The Independent Party ( Hawaiian: ''Kūʻokoʻa'') was a political party in the Kingdom of Hawaii formed with the purpose of providing resources and benefits of a political party to independent politicians. Hawaiian League
The Committee of Safety, formally the Citizen's Committee of Public Safety, was a 13-member group of the Annexation Club. The group was composed of mostly Hawaiian subjects of American descent and American citizens who were members of the '' Missionary Party'', as well as some foreign residents in the Kingdom of Hawaii. The group planned and carried out the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii on January 17, 1893. The goal of this group was to achieve annexation of Hawaii by the United States. The new independent Republic of Hawaii government was thwarted in this goal by the administration of President Grover Cleveland, and it was not until 1898 that the United States Congress approved a joint resolution of annexation creating the U.S. Territory of Hawaii. Hawaiian National Reform Party
The National Reform Party was a political party in the Kingdom of Hawaii that formed in the late 19th century, late in the history of the Kingdom and shortly before the United States annexation of Hawaii. In January, 1890, the National Reform Party was established in opposition to the Reform Party, drawing from the group ''Hui Kālaiāina'' and the Mechanics' and Workingmens' Political Protective Union. It was regarded as a moderate political party and supported Queen Liliuokalani and native Hawaiians; in turn, she formed her cabinet entirely from members of the National Reform Party. The other two main parties were both critical of the queen; the conservative Reform Party said she was too liberal and the Liberal Party accused her of being too conservative. Bayonet Constitution
The 1887 Constitution of the Hawaiian Kingdom was a legal document prepared by anti-monarchists to strip the Hawaiian monarchy of much of its authority, initiating a transfer of power to American, European and native Hawaiian elites. It became known as the Bayonet Constitution for the use of intimidation by the armed militia which forced King Kalākaua to sign it or be deposed. Kalākaua
Kalākaua (David Laʻamea Kamananakapu Mahinulani Naloiaehuokalani Lumialani Kalākaua; November 16, 1836 – January 20, 1891), sometimes called The Merrie Monarch, was the last king and penultimate monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom, Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, reigning from February 12, 1874, until his death in 1891. Succeeding Lunalilo, he was elective monarchy, elected to the vacant throne of Hawaiʻi against Queen Emma of Hawaii, Queen Emma. The Hawaiian National Party also known as the Young Hawaiian Party, King's Party or Government Party was a political party in Hawaii under King David Kalākaua, formed to support him in the event of a second election held after the death of Lunalilo. Lunalilo's death led to the Royal Election of 1874. Queen Emma and her party, the Queen Emma Party, unsuccessfully ran against Kalākaua. Following his win in the election, Kalākaua put members of his party in appointed positions and they were a powerful bloc in the kingdom's legislature. A two-party system is a political party system in which two major political parties consistently dominate the political landscape. At any point in time, one of the two parties typically holds a majority in the legislature and is usually referred to as the ''majority'' or ''governing party'' while the other is the ''minority'' or ''opposition party''.
