__FORCETOC__ In the written form of many languages, an indentation or indent is an empty space at the beginning of a line to signal the start of a new paragraph. Many computer languages have adopted this technique to designate "paragraphs" or other logical blocks in the program. For example, the following lines are indented, using between one and six spaces: This paragraph is indented by 1 space. This paragraph is indented by 3 spaces. This paragraph is indented by 6 spaces. Indent (album)
''Indent'' is a live album by Cecil Taylor recorded in March 1973, originally released on Taylor's own Unit Core label and subsequently more widely released on the Arista Freedom label. It was the first solo piano performance released by Taylor but was recorded over four years after ''Praxis'' which saw limited release in 1982. ''Indent'' was recorded at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Taylor taught at Antioch from 1971–73 and, with bandmates Jimmy Lyons and Andrew Cyrille, led a student orchestra called The Black Music Ensemble. Reception The AllMusic review by Scott Yanow states "Taylor is quite stunning in his control of the piano, his wide range of percussive sound and his endurance. indent is a Unix programming tool, utility that reformats C (programming language), C and C++ code in a user-defined indentation style and coding style. Support for C++ code is minimal. The original version of indent was written by David Willcox at the University of Illinois in November 1976. It was incorporated into BSD, 4.1BSD in October 1982. GNU indent was first written by Jim Kingdon in 1989. The command is available as a separate package for Microsoft Windows as part of the UnxUtils collection of Native (computing), native Windows API, Win32 porting, ports of common GNU Unix-like utilities. Indentation hardness tests are used in mechanical engineering to determine the hardness of a material to deformation. Several such tests exist, wherein the examined material is indented until an impression is formed; these tests can be performed on a macroscopic or microscopic scale. When testing metals, indentation hardness correlates roughly linearly with tensile strength, but it is an imperfect correlation often limited to small ranges of strength and hardness for each indentation geometry.
