In The Pocket (Neil Sedaka Album)
''In the Pocket'' is a 1980 in-studio album by American pop singer Neil Sedaka. In America, it marked his third album on the Elektra label. Elsewhere around the world, it was released on the Polydor label. The first single issued was "Letting Go," in the autumn of 1979, but the single did not manage to reach the Hot 100. However, ''In The Pocket'' would become Sedaka's best-known Elektra album because of its second single, the duet he performed with his daughter Dara, "Should've Never Let You Go" which charted at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at #4 on the Adult Contemporary charts in 1980. It was a remake of a 1978 song, "Should've Never Let Her Go" from the album ''All You Need Is the Music'', which Sedaka had sung solo. The Top 20 duet would become Sedaka's final appearance on the Hot 100. Neil Sedaka
Neil Sedaka (; born March 13, 1939) is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. Since his music career began in 1957, he has sold millions of records worldwide and has written or co-written over 500 songs for himself and other artists, collaborating mostly with lyricists Howard Greenfield, Howard "Howie" Greenfield and Phil Cody. After a short-lived tenure as a founding member of the doo-wop group the Tokens, Sedaka achieved a string of hit singles over the late 1950s and early 1960s, including "Oh! Carol" (1959), "Calendar Girl (song), Calendar Girl" (1960), "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen" (1961) and "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" (1962). Howard Greenfield
Howard Greenfield (March 15, 1936 – March 4, 1986) was an American lyricist and songwriter, who for several years in the 1960s worked out of the famous Brill Building. He is best known for his successful songwriting collaborations, including one with Neil Sedaka from the late 1950s to the mid-1970s, and near-simultaneous (and equally successful) songwriting partnerships with Jack Keller and Helen Miller throughout most of the 1960s. "What a Diff'rence a Day Made", also recorded as "What a Difference a Day Makes", is a popular song originally written in Spanish by María Grever, a Mexican songwriter, in 1934 with the title "Cuando vuelva a tu lado" ("When I Return to Your Side") and first recorded by Orquesta Pedro Vía that same year. A popular version in Spanish was later recorded by trio Los Panchos with Eydie Gormé in 1964. Stanley Adams (August 14, 1907 – January 27, 1994) was an American lyricist and songwriter. He wrote the English lyrics for the song "What a Diff'rence a Day Makes" (song written by the Mexican composer María Grever in 1934) and the English lyrics for "La Cucaracha." Adams was the president of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) between 1953 and 1956, and again from 1959 until 1980. Biography Born in Manhattan, New York, Adams attended New York University where he earned a law degree in 1929. He was still at law school when he became a songwriter; his first song – "Rollin' Down the River" – written in collaboration with Fats Waller, became a hit after being recorded by Guy Lombardo.
