''In the Drink'' is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Justin Courtney Pierre. Produced by Joshua Cain, the album was released on October 12, 2018 in the United States by Epitaph Records. Pierre was previously known as the frontman of indie rock group Motion City Soundtrack, which formed in 1997 and released six albums, also mainly on Epitaph. After the band went on a break in 2016 and re-emerged in 2019, Pierre settled into family life and began developing ''In the Drink''. It was recorded with his former bandmate Joshua Cain. Background The origins of Pierre's first solo effort lie in the dissolution of his former group, Motion City Soundtrack. The band, over their nearly twenty-year career, toured heavily and released six studio albums, the majority on independent label Epitaph Records. Justin Pierre
Justin Courtney Pierre (born May 26, 1976) is a singer, songwriter and guitarist originally from Mahtomedi, Minnesota, United States. He is the co-founder and lead vocalist of the pop punk band Motion City Soundtrack, and is known for his interests and pursuits in film making and production of music. Biography Early life Justin Pierre was raised in Mahtomedi, Minnesota. During his childhood, he enjoyed skateboarding and listening to hip-hop such as Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys. As a teen, Pierre became a big fan of alternative metal band Faith No More; in 1990 he regularly watched their'' You Fat Bastards'' videotape and the performance of frontman Mike Patton greatly influenced him. Epitaph Records is an American independent record label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. Joshua Allen Cain, (born July 31, 1976) is a guitarist and record producer from Saint Paul, Minnesota. He was the co-founder and lead guitarist of United States, American pop punk band Motion City Soundtrack. Cain is also a record producer, music producer with multiple past projects; comprising an Extended play, EP for Epitaph-signed band Sing It Loud and two songs (including the lead single) from Metro Station (band), Metro Station's Metro Station (album), debut album. Motion City Soundtrack is an American rock band that formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1997. The band's line-up consists of vocalist and guitarist Justin Courtney Pierre, lead guitarist Joshua Cain, keyboardist Jesse Johnson, bassist Matthew Taylor, and drummer Tony Thaxton. Gratitude was an American alternative rock band that existed from 2003 to 2005. History Gratitude was formed in 2003 by Mark Weinberg (originally of the band Crumb) and Thomas Becker (originally of the Get Up Kids). Initially called the Collision, the band was joined by Bob Lindsey on bass and Robby Cronholm (also formerly of Crumb) on vocals. Gregory Calbi (born April 3, 1949) is an American mastering engineer at Sterling Sound, New Jersey. Biography Greg Calbi was born on April 3, 1949, in Yonkers, New York, and raised in Bayside, Queens, New York. He graduated in 1966 from Bishop Reilly High School in Fresh Meadows. Calbi earned his bachelor's degree in Mass Communications at Fordham University where he studied with Marshall McLuhan and his staff for 3 of those years.
