"In the Name of Love" is a 1982 single written and performed by British pop band Thompson Twins, at the time a septet ( Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie, Joe Leeway, John Roog, Chris Bell, Peter Dodd, and Matthew Seligman). It was the first of twelve entries on the '' Billboard'' dance chart for the group. "In the Name of Love" went to number one on the dance music chart and stayed there for five weeks, and spent a total of twenty-one weeks on the chart. It peaked at number sixty-nine on the ''Billboard'' R&B chart. The track was newly remixed in 1988 by Shep Pettibone and included as "In the Name of Love '88" on the '' Greatest Mixes'' compilation album. Thompson Twins
Thompson Twins were a British Pop music, pop band formed in 1977 in Sheffield. Initially a New wave music, new wave group, they switched to a more mainstream pop sound and achieved considerable popularity during the mid-1980s, scoring a string of hits in the United Kingdom, the United States, and around the world. In 1993, they changed their name to Babble (band), Babble, to reflect their change in music from pop to Dub music, dub-influenced Chill-out music, chill-out. They continued as Babble until 1996, at which point the group permanently broke up. The band's name was based on the two bumbling detectives Thomson and Thompson (who are close doubles not twins) in the English language version of Hergé's comic strip ''The Adventures of Tintin''.
