''In Concert'' (also known as ''BBC In Concert'') was a British music television series, broadcast live by the BBC between 1970 and 1974. Each episode consists of a one-hour live performance by a single singer songwriter. The series premiered on 9 October 1970 on BBC Two. It was created, produced, and directed by Stanley Dorfman. Overview According to '' The Guardian'' newspaper in 1974, ''In Concert'' was the only music television program that "produced television ideas". During its time, the format revolutionized the portrayal of singer-songwriters by establishing them as deserving of full attention and able to carry an entire TV episode without distraction. Stanley Dorfman
Stanley Dorfman (born 24 November 1927) is an English music television director, producer, and painter. He is known as the co-creator and original producer and director of the world's longest running music television series, ''Top of the Pops''. His pioneering work on the program contributed to the development of music videos. During his tenure at the BBC, Dorfman created the BBC music television series '' In Concert'' in 1970'','' where he served as director and producer until mid-1974. Lesley Duncan
Lesley Cox (née Duncan; 12 August 1943 – 12 March 2010) was an English singer-songwriter, best known for her work during the 1970s. She received much airplay on British radio stations such as BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2, but never achieved greater commercial success, in part because of her unwillingness to chase stardom, as well as crippling stage fright. The Carpenters
The Carpenters (officially known as Carpenters) were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen Carpenter, Karen (1950–1983) and Richard Carpenter (musician), Richard Carpenter (born 1946). They produced a distinct, soft, musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging, and composition skills. Pentangle (band)
Pentangle are a British folk band, formed in London in 1967. The original band was active in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and a later version has been active since the early 1980s. The original line-up, which was unchanged throughout the band's first incarnation (1967–1973), was Jacqui McShee (vocals); John Renbourn (vocals and guitar); Bert Jansch (vocals and guitar); Danny Thompson (double bass); and Terry Cox (drums). The name ''Pentangle'' was chosen to represent the five members of the band, and is also the device on Sir Gawain's shield in the Middle English poem ''Sir Gawain and the Green Knight'', which held a fascination for Renbourn. Mary Allin Travers (November 9, 1936 – September 16, 2009) was an American singer-songwriter who was known for being in the famous 1960s folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, along with Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey. Travers grew up amid the burgeoning folk scene in New York City's Greenwich Village, and she released five solo albums. She sang in the contralto range. Gallagher And Lyle
Gallagher and Lyle were a Scottish people, Scottish musical duo, comprising singer-songwriters Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle. Their style consisted mainly in pop, soft rock, soft and folk rock oriented songs. Their first recognition came in 1968, when they were signed by The Beatles to write for Apple Records' artists. They were founding members of the band McGuinness Flint and wrote the 1970 UK chart hit "When I'm Dead and Gone".
