In Cold Blood
''In Cold Blood'' is a non-fiction novel by American author Truman Capote, first published in 1966. It details the 1959 murders of four members of the Clutter family in the small farming community of Holcomb, Kansas. Capote learned of the quadruple murder before the killers were captured, and he traveled to Kansas to write about the crime. He was accompanied by his childhood friend and fellow author Harper Lee, and they interviewed residents and investigators assigned to the case and took thousands of pages of notes. Killers Richard Hickock and Perry Smith were arrested six weeks after the murders and later executed by the state of Kansas. Capote ultimately spent six years working on the book. ''In Cold Blood'' was an instant success and is the second-best-selling true crime book in history, behind Vincent Bugliosi's ''Helter Skelter'' (1974) about the Charles Manson murders. Some critics consider Capote's work the original non-fiction novel, although other writers had alr ...

In Cold Blood (film)
''In Cold Blood'' is a 1967 American neo-noir crime film written, produced and directed by Richard Brooks, based on Truman Capote's 1966 nonfiction book of the same name. It stars Robert Blake as Perry Smith and Scott Wilson as Richard "Dick" Hickock, two men who murder a family of four in Holcomb, Kansas. Although the film is in parts faithful to the book, Brooks made some slight alterations, including the inclusion of a fictional character, "The Reporter" (played by Paul Stewart). The film was shot on location at sites where Smith and Hickock's crimes occurred, including the real Clutter home where they robbed and murdered all four members of the family. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards: Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, and Best Adapted Screenplay. In 2008, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Plot ...

In Cold Blood (soundtrack)
''In Cold Blood'' is a 1967 film score for the film ''In Cold Blood'', composed, arranged and conducted by Quincy Jones. The soundtrack album was released on the Colgems label in 1967. Truman Capote lobbied unsuccessfully to have Jones removed from the film. According to Jones, Capote called director Richard Brooks and said "Richard, I don't understand why you've got a Negro doing the music for a film with no people of color in it.' And Richard Brooks said, 'Fuck you, he's doing the music". Capote later apologized to Jones. The Vinyl Factory said "The opening title track, with its galloping drums and corrosive strings, lets you know you are entering a bleak musical terrain. "Perry's Theme", which begins with a beatific Spanish guitar, mutates into something terrifying, as strings rise and fall ominously. With its harrowing organ blasts, "Murder Scene" is a haunting aural crime photo. At the time, this menacing soundtrack was considered a convention breaker not only for Jones, ...
