''Impressions'' is the first compilation retrospective album by Bronx-born singer, songwriter, and pianist Laura Nyro Laura Nyro ( ; born Laura Nigro; October 18, 1947 – April 8, 1997) was an American songwriter, singer, and pianist. She achieved critical acclaim with her own recordings, particularly the albums ''Eli and the Thirteenth Confession'' (1968 .... It was released in the UK in 1980 and features material from her first four albums for Verve and Columbia Records, completely omitting material after 1970. The album was released seemingly without Nyro's approval or knowledge, at the time Nyro was in a period of semi-retirement, living with her young son in Danbury, but flopped and ''Impressions'' remains out of print, having never been issued on CD. She did not release another album until 1984. Nyro curated her own retrospective album, '' Stoned Soul Picnic: The Best of Laura Nyro'', shortly before her death in 1997. According to childhood friend Alan Merrill, Nyro originally intended the song, a gospel-inflected uptempo piece, to be performed at a slower pace. ''New York Tendaberry'' is the third album by New York City-born singer, songwriter and pianist Laura Nyro. It was released in the autumn of 1969, on Columbia Records, some eighteen months after its predecessor, ''Eli and the Thirteenth Confession''. It was helmed by her, with the assistance of producer and engineer Roy Halee. The cover photograph was taken by David Gahr. ''New York Tendaberry'' is also considered to be the second in a trilogy of classic original Nyro records, with ''Eli'' and '' Christmas and the Beads of Sweat'' on either side. ''Eli and the Thirteenth Confession'' is the second album by New York City-born singer, songwriter, and pianist Laura Nyro, released in 1968. History Nyro premiered some of the songs that were to appear on the album at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. The song "Luckie" was derived from an earlier composition Nyro had played at her audition for Verve Records in 1966. Before she signed to Columbia Records, Verve had already planned to release the album, under the title ''Soul Picnic''. The album saw its actual release in 1968 on the Columbia label and became one of the year's underground successes. The album was written entirely by Nyro, arranged by Charlie Calello and produced by both. The front cover was taken by Bob Cato.
