Imperia Oneglia Railway Station
Imperia Oneglia railway station ( it, Stazione di Imperia Oneglia) served the city of Imperia, in the Liguria region, northwestern Italy. Opened in 1872, it formed part of the Genoa–Ventimiglia railway, and was situated just over two thirds along the way from Genoa towards Ventimiglia. It was replaced on 11 December 2016, along with Imperia's other former railway station, Imperia Porto Maurizio, to the west, by a new station, simply named Imperia, situated on a new double-track line replacing the old coastal route. Imperia
Imperia (; lij, Inpêia or ) is a coastal city and ''comune'' in the Regions of Italy, region of Liguria, Italy. It is the capital of the Province of Imperia, and historically it was capital of the ''Intemelia'' district of Liguria. Benito Mussolini created the city of Imperia on 21 October 1923 by combining Porto Maurizio and Oneglia, as well as the surrounding village communes of Piani, Caramagna Ligure, Castelvecchio di Santa Maria Maggiore, Borgo Sant'Agata, Costa d'Oneglia, Poggi, Torrazza, Moltedo and Montegrazie. Imperia is well known for the floriculture, cultivation of flowers and olives, and is a popular summer destination for visitors. Imperia Porto Maurizio railway station ( it, Stazione di Imperia Porto Maurizio) was one of two stations serving the city and ''comune'' of Imperia, in Liguria, northwestern Italy. Opened in 1872, it formed part of the Genoa–Ventimiglia railway, and was situated just over two thirds along the way from Genoa towards Ventimiglia. History Until 2016, the city of Imperia was served by two separate railway stations, and on the single-track Genoa–Ventimiglia railway. As part of the continuing project to increase capacity, a new double-track line has been constructed to run parallel to the old line along a route further inland. The section of double-track railway between and opened in 2016, running largely through tunnels, rather than winding along the coast. The new Imperia station replaced the two old stations, which have been closed.
