Ilan Harari
llan Harari ( he, אילן הררי; January 7, 1959) is a retired Israel Defense Forces brigadier general who served as chief education officer of the Education and Youth Corps. Harari served in various combat positions, including a command position in the Nahal Brigade and as a battalion commander in the Golani Brigade. On September 22, 2006, he announced his retirement and stated that Israel had lost the Lebanon War. General Yiftah Ron-Tal voiced the same opinion. Israel's Ramatkal, Chief of Staff Dan Halutz disputed this assessment. As head of a project to identify acts of heroism during the war, Harari said: "We heard about the complaints, the difficulties, the confusion, but in all that, there are plenty of heroic tales ... and these should be elevated so that every division in the IDF knows what happened there..." The Israeli Education and Youth Corps ( he, חיל החינוך והנוער, ''Heil HaHinuh VeHaNo'ar'') is the IDF Manpower Directorate corps responsible for the education of soldiers and commanders in Israel's military. The 933rd "Nahal" Brigade is one of the Israel Defense Forces main infantry brigades. From August 2019 to June 2021, the brigade was led by . On June 28, was appointed as the new commander. The 1st "Golani" Brigade ( he, חֲטִיבַת גּוֹלָנִי) is an Israeli military infantry brigade that is subordinated to the 36th Division and traditionally associated with the Northern Command. Yiftah Ron-Tal ( he, יפתח רון-טל; born 1956) is the director of the Israel Electric Corporation, former head of the Israel Port Authority and former major general in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Biography Ron-Tal was born on Netiv HaLamed-Heh, a kibbutz in the Elah valley in central Israel. Drafted in 1974 into the Israeli Armored Corps, he became commander of the IDF Ground Forces Command. After leaving the military, Ron-Tal headed the Israel Port Authority and, as of 2011, he was serving as head of the Israel Electric Corporation. The Chief of the General Staff, also known as the Commander-in-Chief of the Israel Defense Forces (, abbreviated ''Ramatkal''—), is the supreme commander and head of the Israel Defense Forces. The current Chief of the General Staff is Aviv Kochavi. Dan Halutz ( he, דן חלוץ, ; born August 7, 1948) is an Israeli Air Force lieutenant general and former Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces and commander of the Israeli Air Force. Halutz served as chief of staff in 2005–2007. Biography Halutz was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, and grew up on moshav Hagor. His parents are both Mizrahi Jewish, and they were born in Iran and in Iraq. Halutz holds a degree in economics from Tel Aviv University, and a Harvard Business School degree. He is chairman of the Etgarim special-needs charity.
