Il Viaggio Della Sposa
''The Bride's Journey'' ( it, Il viaggio della sposa) is a 1997 Italian comedy drama film written, directed and starred by Sergio Rubini. Plot In the 16th century, in Abruzzo, the noblewoman Porzia Colonna is promised as a bride to a nobleman of the Orsini family of Conversano, near Bari. Porzia must be escorted from the convent of Atri, where she was educated, to Conversano. During the journey, a band of brigands attacks her party, and most of those travelling with her are killed. The only survivors are Porzia and a rough fellow named Bartolo, who decide to continue the journey to Apulia on foot, although they are so different that they are distrustful of each other. They travel together for two months, meeting many adventures along the way. For the young lady, who has known life only out of books, this is a meeting with hard reality. Sergio Rubini
Sergio Rubini (born 21 December 1959) is an Italian actor, film director and screenwriter. Life and career Rubini was born in Grumo Appula, Apulia, but soon moved to Rome to study acting. After some roles in theater, he debuted in a feature film with ''Figlio mio infinitamente caro'' (1985), which was followed by ''Desiderando Giulia'' and '' Il caso Moro''. In 1987 he appeared in Federico Fellini's ''Intervista''. In 1989 Rubini debuted also as director with '' La stazione'', written with his friend Umberto Marino. The film won a Silver Ribbon and a David di Donatello as best debut work. In 1994 he was again actor in Carlo Verdone's ''Al lupo al lupo'', and the following year he directed himself and Nastassja Kinski in ''La bionda''. Umberto Orsini
Umberto Orsini (born 2 April 1934, in Novara) is an Italian stage, television and film actor. Born in Novara, Orsini gave up his career as notary to attend the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico. In the late 1950s, he emerged as a talented stage actor, and in 1960, for the theatrical representation of ''L'Arialda'', he worked for the first time with Luchino Visconti. After a few secondary roles (that include Federico Fellini's '' La Dolce Vita''), Orsini debuted in a leading role in 1962 with the film '' Il mare'', directed by Giuseppe Patroni Griffi. Conversano
Conversano ( Barese: ) is an ancient town and ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Bari, Apulia, south-eastern Italy. It is southeast of Bari and from the Adriatic coast, at above sea level. The counts of Conversano owned a stud that they used to breed black Neapolitan stallions with Barb and Andalusian genetic backgrounds: these horses had strong ram-like heads, short backs, and broad hocks. One horse born in 1767, Conversano, became one of the principal stallions for establishing the Lipizzan horses (''Lipizzaner''). History The town of Conversano was settled as early as the Iron Age, when the Iapygians or the Peucetians founded Norba. Later, as evidenced by the 6th-century BC necropolis, it became a flourishing trade town that was influenced by the nearby Greek colonies. Giovanna Mezzogiorno (; born 9 November 1974) is an Italian theatre and film actress. Early life Mezzogiorno was born in Rome, 9 November 1974, a daughter of actors Vittorio Mezzogiorno and Cecilia Sacchi. She grew up watching her parents on set. At first, she wanted to become a ballerina, and she studied dancing for 13 years. After her father's death when she was 19, Mezzogiorno moved to Paris, where she attended the stages by Arianne Mnouchkine and worked for two years at the Peter Brook Workshop. She made her stage debut with the role of Ofelia in ''Qui est là'', based on Shakespeare's ''Hamlet''. The play toured various European cities.
