''Il sogno del maratoneta'' (''The Dream of the Marathon Runner'') is an Italian TV movie produced by RAI television. It is directed by Leone Pompucci and stars Luigi Lo Cascio and Laura Chiatti. It was aired on television as a two-parter. It is an adaptation of the homonym book by Giuseppe Pederiali. It has been presented at the 26th Festival international de programmes audiovisuels (FIPA) in Biarritz (France) on 25 and 26 January 2013 in the selections ''Fiction'' and ''Compétition''. Plot The movie is about the story of the Italian athlete Dorando Pietri and restitutes the runner's fortunes and misfortunes at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. The start of Pietri's sporting career was a hard one. A passionate long-distance runner, like his brother Ulpiano, Dorando Pietri was rebuffed by trainer Barbisio because he was deemed to be too meager. Leone Pompucci
Leone Pompucci (born 15 August 1961 in Rome) is an Italian film director. Career Leone Pompucci graduated from the Avogadro institute in Rome, followed by studies at the National Santa Cecilia Conservatory. He started his career as a photographer from 1982 to 1989. He conceived and produced covers for the most important Italian and European weekly magazines: ''Der Spiegel'', ''L'Express'', ''Panorama'', ''L'espresso'', ''L'Europeo'' and ''Famiglia Cristiana''. In the mid-1980s Leone Pompucci was recruited by the Italian TV program Rai 3, later working also with Rai 2 and Rai Uno. Equipped with that experience he made his first film, ''Mille bolle blu'', for which he received the David di Donatello award for best young director in 1994. The film was also presented at the Stockholm Film Festival. His next film was released in 1995, again with success, winning a Nastro d'Argento for the best screenplay, written by Pompucci himself. Pippo Delbono (born 1 June 1959 in Varazze, Italy) is an Italian author, actor, and director. Biography Pippo Delbono began training in traditional theatre in Denmark, studying the principles of oriental theatre, through a rigorous work on body and voice. Later, in Germany, Delbono was invited by Pina Bausch to follow her work. At the beginning of the 80's he founded the Compagnia Pippo Delbono, creating most of his works with them, from Il ''Tempo degli Assassini'' (1987) to ''La Gioia'' (2018).
