Ikeda Clan
was a Japanese clan that claimed descent from Minamoto no Yorimitsu (948-1021) of the Seiwa Genji. Minamoto no Yasumasa, the fourth generation descending from Yorimitsu, and younger brother of Minamoto no Yorimasa (1104-1180), was the first to call himself 'Ikeda'. Ikeda Terumasa
was a Japanese ''daimyō'' of the early Edo period. His court title was '' Musashi no Kami''. Terumasa was also known by the nickname ''saigoku no shōgun'', or, "The ''Shōgun'' of Western Japan". Terumasa fought in many of the battles of the late Azuchi–Momoyama period, and due to his service at the Battle of Sekigahara, received a fief at Himeji. His childhood name was Araokojimaru (荒尾古新丸). He was the son of Ikeda Tsuneoki and brother of Ikeda Sen. Biography Terumasa was the 2nd son and heir of Ikeda Nobuteru, Terumasa held Ikejiri Castle (Mino Province) and joined his father in fighting for Hideyoshi in the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute 1584, he led troops at Nagakute, the battle in which his father was killed. In 1590, following the transfer of Tokugawa Ieyasu to the Kanto, Terumasa was established at Yoshida in Mikawa, a 152,000-''koku'' fief. Ikeda Tsugumasa (1702–1776) (池田継政) was a ''daimyō'' of Okayama during the Edo period of Japan, and head of the Ikeda clan. He was the father of Ikeda Munemasa, who would become ''daimyō'' following his father's retirement in 1752. His father was Ikeda Tsunamasa, and Tsuguasa made additions to the Kōraku-en gardens that his father built in Okayama. His childhood name was Shigetaro (茂太郎) later Minechiyo (峯千代). He was in contact with the Rinzai monk Hakuin Ekaku, whom he first heard lecture on the '' Diamond Sūtra'' in Okayama in 1751.
