Ice sledge speed racing at the 1994 Winter Paralympics consisted of eight events, four for men and four for women. 1994 Winter Paralympics
The 1994 Winter Paralympics ( no, Paralympiske vinterleker 1994; nn, Paralympiske vinterleikane 1994), the sixth Paralympic Winter Games, were held in Lillehammer, Norway, from 10 to 19 March 1994. These Games marked the second time the Paralympic Winter Games were held in the same location as the Winter Olympics and with the first with the same Organizing Committee, a tradition that has continued through an agreement of cooperation between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Ice sledge hockey, which became an immediate crowd favorite, was added to the program. These Paralympic Games are the only to be held two years after the previous Games due to the shift in the Summer and Winter games schedule. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC; german: Internationales Paralympisches Komitee) is an international non-profit organisation and the global governing body for the Paralympic Movement. The IPC organizes the Paralympic Games and functions as the international federation for nine sports. Atle Haglund
Atle Haglund (born 10 April 1964) is a Norwegian ice sledge hockey player and ice sledge speed racer. He lost both his legs in a traffic accident at the age of eight. During the 1984 Winter Paralympics, Haglund participated in four disciplines of ice sledge speed racing. He won a gold in the 1,000 meter, and a silver in the 100 meter. During the 1988 Winter Paralympics, he again participated in four disciplines, and won a bronze in 1,500 meter. During the 1994 Winter Paralympics, he participated in both ice sledge speed racing and ice sledge hockey. He took a gold in 1,000 meter and 1,500, as well as a silver in 500 meter and the men's ice hockey tournament.
