Ian Gill
Ian Gill is an Australian-Canadian writer, documentary filmmaker, and social entrepreneur. He has been the director of Ecotrust Canada since 1994. Before that he worked as a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Gill was president and founder of Ecotrust Canada from 1994 to 2010, when he was appointed founding Executive Director of Ecotrust Australia. Gill served for over five years as a director of Vancity credit union. and currently serves as a director of Vancouver Writers Fest literary festival. Ecotrust Canada
Ecotrust Canada is a Canadian charity with offices in Vancouver and Prince Rupert, BC. History In 1991, Ecotrust, an American charity based in Portland, Oregon, was established with the purpose of developing a conservation-based economy in the Pacific Northwest. Founder Spencer Beebe set out to work with Indigenous people in the world's largest intact coastal temperate rainforest, located in northwestern BC. He soon realized that he needed a Canadian partner organization and, in 1994, asked one of his Canadian Ecotrust board members, Jacqueline Koerner, to take the lead on founding Ecotrust Canada. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (french: Société Radio-Canada), branded as CBC/Radio-Canada, is a Canadian public broadcaster for both radio and television. Vancouver Writers Fest
The Vancouver Writers Fest is a non-profit organization that produces a variety of literary events in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Its main event is the Vancouver Writers Fest, which is an annual week-long literary festival held on Granville Island, Vancouver in late October. Writers from Canada and abroad attend the festival to perform readings, interviews and panel discussions. The organization also runs the Incite reading series in the spring and the Spreading the Word schools program year-round. The Festival was introduced in 1988 by founding Artistic Director Alma Lee. In 2010, the Festival was named the "Best Large Literary Festival in Canada" by the Canadian Tourism Commission. The Vancouver Writers Fest adopted its current name in 2012.
