''I Will Mention the Loving-kindnesses'' is an anthem for Easter by Arthur Sullivan. The text is taken from the Book of Isaiah, scored for solo tenor, mixed choir and organ. It was published by Novello in 1875, dedicated to John Stainer. History Sullivan was a boy chorister at the Chapel Royal from 1854 to 1857. There, he began to write anthems and songs. He then studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the Musikhochschule Leipzig, returning to England in 1861. An anthem is a musical composition of celebration, usually used as a symbol for a distinct group, particularly the national anthems of countries. Originally, and in music theory and religious contexts, it also refers more particularly to short sacred choral work (still frequently seen in Sacred Harp and other types of shape note singing) and still more particularly to a specific form of liturgical music. The following is a list of musical works by the English composer Arthur Sullivan, best known for his operatic collaborations with W. S. Gilbert. In all, Sullivan's artistic output included 23 operas, 13 major orchestral works, eight choral works and oratorios, two ballets, one song cycle, incidental music to several plays, numerous hymns and other church pieces, and a large body of songs, parlour ballads, part songs, carols, and piano and chamber pieces. Sullivan began to compose music at an early age. His first known composition, ''By the Waters of Babylon'', dates from when he was eight years old. While a member of the prestigious boys' choir of the Chapel Royal, with the support of the choirmaster, Thomas Helmore, Sullivan composed several more anthems, and one of these, ''O, Israel'', was Sullivan's first published composition, in 1855. Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) was an English Particular Baptist preacher. Spurgeon remains highly influential among Christians of various denominations, among whom he is known as the "Prince of Preachers". He was a strong figure in the Reformed Baptist tradition, defending the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, and opposing the liberal and pragmatic theological tendencies in the Church of his day.
