I Useta Lover
"I Useta Lover" (, eye dialect of "I used to love her") is a 1990 song by Irish rock group The Saw Doctors. It is the second single off the '' If This Is Rock and Roll, I Want My Old Job Back'' album. It stayed at the #1 position in the Irish chart for nine weeks and became one of the best-selling singles of all time in the country. A similar clerically influenced message is seen in other Saw Doctors songs, notably "Bless Me Father" and "Tommy K". The chorus of the song was originally taken from a song of the same name which was performed by Davy Carton's first band, Blaze X. The original song had been written by Paul Cunniffe. The Saw Doctors
The Saw Doctors are an Irish rock band. Formed in 1986 in Tuam, County Galway, they have achieved eighteen Top 30 singles in the Republic of Ireland including three number ones. Their first number one, "I Useta Lover," topped the Irish charts for nine consecutive weeks in 1990 and holds the record for the country's all-time biggest-selling single. On 15 February 2008, they received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards. Davy Carton (born 10 April 1959) is a singer, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist from Tuam, County Galway, in the Republic of Ireland. Leo Moran
Leo Moran (born 9 November 1964 in Tuam, Galway) is best known as lead guitarist and sometimes vocalist in the Irish folk rock band The Saw Doctors. Moran studied French and Sociology at University College Galway. He later trained as a secondary teacher and earned a higher diploma in education. At Galway, he met several prominent figures in the area's music scene, including Padraig Boran and Ollie Jennings, who would become the Saw Doctors' manager. In addition, he played in a local reggae band, Too Much For The White Man. Eventually, Moran formed the Saw Doctors with Davy Carton of Blaze X. Paul Cunniffe
Paul Cunniffe (23 June 1961 – 11 August 2001) was a British-born, Irish singer-songwriter. He fronted the 1980s punk band Blaze X. Early life and career Cunniffe was born in Cambridge, England, and then lived in Ellesmere Port, but moved back to his family's hometown of Tuam in Ireland at the age of 14. In Tuam CBS he formed Blaze X with friends Paul Ralph, Davy Carton and Ja Keating. After Blaze X split, he moved to London. He began to write songs on his own, and play on the Irish pub scene around the capital. He won the London Pub Entertainer of the Year award in 1996. He went on to form a short-lived band with a group of friends, naming themselves "Tuatha" a reflection of Paul's time in Ireland. Blaze X
Blaze X (1979–1981) were an Irish new wave band. The band was formed in Tuam, County Galway by friends Paul Cunniffe and Paul Ralph. They released a single in 1980, "Some Hope" which became Larry Gogan's 'hit song of the week' on 2FM. Its B-side, "Rippy", about serial killer The Yorkshire Ripper was banned by the RTÉ. Their highest profile was when they supported U2 in Leisureland in Galway. Frontman Paul Cunniffe went on to have a solo career in London, but died in 2001. Guitarist Davy Carton went on to form The Saw Doctors. Following the death of Paul Cunniffe, a CD of their songs was released in 2003.
