"I Recall a Gypsy Woman" is a song written by Bob McDill and Allen Reynolds, and originally recorded by Don Williams in 1973. In 1976, at the height of the country and western boom in Britain, his version charted at number 13 on the UK Singles Chart, the best position for Williams on this chart. The song was previously the B-side of Williams' 1973 single "Atta Way to Go", which peaked at number 13 on the Hot Country Songs chart in 1973. Robert Lee McDill (born April 4, 1944) is a retired American songwriter, active from the 1960s until 2000. During his career he wrote or co-wrote 31 number one country hits. His songs were also recorded by popular artists of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, including The Grateful Dead, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Anne Murray and B. J. Thomas. His movie credits include ''Primary Colors'', ''The Thing Called Love'', ''Texasville'' and the documentary ''Grizzly Man''. In addition to four Grammy nominations, McDill received Songwriter of the Year awards from Broadcast Music Incorporated, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and the Nashville Songwriters Association International. Arthel Lane "Doc" Watson (March 3, 1923 – May 29, 2012) was an American guitarist, songwriter, and singer of bluegrass, folk, country, blues, and gospel music. Watson won seven Grammy awards as well as a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Watson's fingerstyle and flatpicking skills, as well as his knowledge of traditional American music, were highly regarded. Chuck Prophet
Charles William Prophet (born June 28, 1963) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and record producer. A Californian, Prophet first achieved notice in the American psychedelic/desert rock group Green on Red, with whom he toured and recorded in the 1980s. He has also recorded a number of solo records, and gained prominence as a musician and songwriter. Life and work Chuck Prophet was born in Whittier, California, United States, and calls San Francisco home. After recording one E.P. and eight albums with rock group Green on Red, he released his first solo record ''Brother Aldo'' on Fire Records in 1990. It was not released in the U.S. until 1997. Merle Watson
Eddy Merle Watson (February 8, 1949 – October 23, 1985) was an American folk and bluegrass guitarist. He was best known for his performances with his father, Doc Watson. Merle played and recorded albums together with his father from age 15 until his death in a tractor accident 21 years later. Merle was widely recognized as one of the best flat-picking and slide guitarists of his generation. MerleFest, one of the world's largest and most-prestigious folk music festivals, is held annually in Wilkesboro, NC and is named in his honor. Merle and his father released a version of " Bottle of Wine" that reached No. 71 on the U.S. country chart. Death Watson died in a farm accident in 1985 at age 36. ''Dreaming My Dreams'' is the twenty-second studio album by American country music artist Waylon Jennings. The album was co-produced with Jack Clement and recorded at Glaser Sound Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, between February and July 1974. Following the 1972 renewal of his contract with RCA Records, Jennings gained artistic freedom, started to produce his own records, and changed his image to one inspired by the ongoing outlaw movement. Jennings recorded the critically acclaimed ''Honky Tonk Heroes'' and the commercial success '' This Time''. Jennings left the recording studios of RCA and moved his operation to the Glaser Sound Studio. Allen Reynolds (born August 18, 1938) is an American record producer and songwriter who specializes in country music. He has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. Biography Early life and career Reynolds was born in North Little Rock, Arkansas, and grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. He started writing songs during his college years and eventually teamed up with Dickey Lee to form their own publishing and production company. They had a minor regional hit with the song "Dream Boy." In the early 1960s, Reynolds most notably wrote the 1965 pop hit "Five O'Clock World" for the Vogues.
