I Love Rock 'n Roll
"I Love Rock 'n' Roll" is a rock song written by Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker and first recorded by the Arrows, a British rock band, in 1975. A 1981 cover version by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, released as the first single from her album of the same name, became Jett's highest-charting hit, reaching number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and becoming the No. 3 song for 1982. The single was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, representing two million units shipped to stores. Jett's version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016. Arrows (British Band)
The Arrows were a band based in London, England. The group, which formed in 1974 and disbanded in 1977, included American singer/bassist Alan Merrill, American guitarist Jake Hooker (musician), Jake Hooker and English drummer Paul Varley (who had replaced Clive Williams relatively early in the band's history). They had UK chart hit Single (music), singles in 1974 and 1975 with "Touch Too Much (Arrows song), Touch Too Much" and "My Last Night with You", produced by Mickie Most on RAK Records. "It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)" is the lead single from English rock band the Rolling Stones' 1974 album ''It's Only Rock 'n Roll''. Written by the duo of Tommy James and drummer Peter Lucia Jr., it was intended as a change in direction of the group's sound and composition. Ritchie Cordell (born Richard Joel Rosenblatt; March 10, 1943 – April 13, 2004) was an American songwriter, singer and record producer. He wrote and produced several hits for Tommy James and the Shondells, including " I Think We're Alone Now" (later also recorded by Lene Lovich, Tiffany and Girls Aloud) and " Mony Mony" (later also recorded by Billy Idol), and co-produced Joan Jett's ''I Love Rock 'n' Roll''. Biography Rosenblatt was born in Brooklyn, New York, and started singing and playing guitar in his teens. In 1961, he was introduced to song plugger Sid Prosen, who in turn introduced him to young songwriter Paul Simon, then using the pseudonym Jerry Landis. Kenneth Benjamin Laguna is an American songwriter, record producer, and musician, best known for his work with Joan Jett. Biography Laguna was born in Greenwich Village, New York City, United States, and started playing piano at high school dances from the age of twelve. ''Arrows'' was a pop television series aimed at the teen market, which aired in 1976 and 1977 in the UK. The show was produced by Muriel Young, and ran for two 14-week series on the ITV network, produced by Granada Television. The show format was that the band Arrows would perform their own songs, and would introduce the guest artists. There was also a pop dance troupe called Him and Us who were regulars on the series.
