Dwight David Yoakam (born October 23, 1956) is an American singer-songwriter, actor, and film director. He first achieved mainstream attention in 1986 with the release of his debut album '' Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.''. Yoakam had considerable success throughout the late 1980s onward, with a total of ten studio albums for Reprise Records. Later projects have been released on Audium (now MNRK Music Group), New West, Warner, and Sugar Hill Records. His first three albums''Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.'', '' Hillbilly Deluxe'', and ''Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room''all reached number one on the '' Billboard'' Top Country Albums chart. "I Sang Dixie" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Dwight Yoakam. It was released in October 1988 as the second single from his album ''Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room''. In 1989, the song went to number one on the US Country chart. Rolling Stone ranked "I Sang Dixie" No. 26 on its list of the 40 Saddest Country Songs of All time in 2019. Content The song's narrator describes meeting a man from the Southern United States dying on a street in Los Angeles.
