IWA Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship
The IWA Intercontinental Championship is a secondary professional wrestling Championship (professional wrestling), title defended in Puerto Rico. It was originally defended in the original International Wrestling Association (Puerto Rico), International Wrestling Association, later being reintroduced in the World Wrestling League (WWL). The title was used since 2002, when Super Crazy became the first champion, defeating Eddie Guerrero at the very first Ring of Honor event, ''The Era of Honor Begins'', in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The championship was modified in 2009, changing the original black belt to another colored red. In 2021, Fernando Tonos and Manny Ferno created the group La Alianza IWE with the intention of completing a hostile takeover on behalf of International Wrestling Entertainment. International Wrestling Association (Puerto Rico)
The International Wrestling Association is a conglomerate of professional wrestling promotions that originated in Puerto Rico and currently operates there and in the state of Florida. Founded in 1999 by promoter Víctor Quiñones (who had also created the unrelated IWA-Japan in 1994) as a novel promotion, it quickly entered an agreement to serve as a development territory for the World Wrestling Federation (now known as WWE) that lasted until 2001. During its first decade, IWA grew to rival the long-standing World Wrestling Council (WWC). Its business model relies on pushing younger talents, using veterans and foreign wrestlers to get them over with the public. Justin McCully (born February 18, 1976) is a retired American professional mixed martial artist and professional wrestler who most recently competed in the Heavyweight division of the RFA. A professional competitor since 1997, McCully has also formerly competed for the UFC, RINGS, Pancrase, It's Showtime and Jungle Fight. Toa Baja (, ) is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico located in the northern coast, north of Toa Alta and Bayamón; east of Dorado; and west of Cataño. Carlos Omar Cotto Cruz (born February 13, 1980) is a Puerto Rican professional wrestler and boxer. IWA Puerto Rico/Caribbean Heavyweight Championship
The IWA Puerto Rico/Caribbean Heavyweight Championship (''Campeonato Peso Pesado del Caribe/Caribeño de la IWA'' in Spanish) is a regional championship originally defended in the International Wrestling Association of Puerto Rico (IWA-PR), where it was a mid-tier title. For some time it was unified with another secondary accolade, the IWA Puerto Rico Heavyweight Championship. It was later reintroduced as a stand-alone title and deactivated when the promotion entered seven years of inactivity, but was not among the lineup when IWA-PR resumed its shows.
