"I'm an Old, Old Man (Tryin' to Live While I Can)" is a song written and sung by Frizzell and released on the Columbia label (catalog no. 21034). In December 1952, it peaked at No. 3 on ''Billboard''s country and western best seller chart. It spent nine weeks on the charts. The song was later covered by Merle Haggard on ''If We Make It Through December'' (1974). After Frizzell died in 1975, Haggard wrote a tribute song, "Goodbye Lefty" that referenced the 1952 song: "But the old old man is gone. There'll be no more Lefty's songs." Lefty Frizzell
William Orville "Lefty" Frizzell (March 31, 1928 – July 19, 1975) was an American country music singer-songwriter and honky-tonk singer. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982. Frizzell released many songs that charted in the Top 10 of the Hot Country Songs charts. His success did not carry on into the 1960s, and after becoming an alcoholic, he died at age 47. Life and career Early life William Orville Frizzell was born the son of an oilman, the first of eight children, in Corsicana in Navarro County in North Texas, United States. Merle Ronald Haggard (April 6, 1937 – April 6, 2016) was an American country music singer, songwriter, guitarist, and fiddler. Haggard was born in Oildale, California, toward the end of the Great Depression. His childhood was troubled after the death of his father, and he was incarcerated several times in his youth. After being released from San Quentin State Prison in 1960, he managed to turn his life around and launch a successful country music career. He gained popularity with his songs about the working class that occasionally contained themes contrary to anti–Vietnam War sentiment of some popular music of the time. ''Long Gone Dead'' is the second album by the American band Rank and File, released in 1984. Founding member Alejandro Escovedo left the band prior to the recording sessions for the album. Zephire Andre Williams (November 1, 1936 – March 17, 2019) was an American R&B musician who started his career in the 1950s at Fortune Records in Detroit. His most famous songs include the hits "Jail Bait", "Greasy Chicken", "Bacon Fat" (1957) and "Cadillac Jack" (1966). He was also the co-author of the R&B hit " Shake a Tail Feather".
