Run's House (song)
"Run's House" is a single released by Run–D.M.C. from their fourth studio album ''Tougher Than Leather''. It was released in 1988 through Profile Records and was produced and written by the group and Davy D. "Run's House" was the highest-charting single from the album, making it to number ten on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The track was later used as the theme song for Run's show ''Run's House'' and was sampled by the group for their hit single, " Down with the King". The premise of the song is that no matter who is performing at a concert or wherever they go, Run-DMC owns the "house" and always heads the bill. Run-DMC (also spelled Run-D.M.C.) was an American hip hop group from Hollis, Queens, New York City, founded in 1983 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell. Run-DMC is regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of hip hop culture and one of the most famous hip hop acts of the 1980s. "Mary, Mary" is a song written by Michael Nesmith and first recorded by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band for their 1966 album '' East-West''. Nesmith's band, the Monkees, later recorded it for ''More of the Monkees'' (1967). Hip hop group Run–D.M.C. revived the song in the late 1980s, with an adaptation that appeared in the U.S. record charts. The Butterfield Blues Band In 1966, Elektra Records was entering the singles market with new rock acts such as Love and the Doors. Hoping that the Paul Butterfield Blues Band would produce a hit, Elektra arranged an extended stay and recording sessions for the group in Los Angeles during the summer. "Christmas in Hollis" is a single by Run-DMC that was included on two 1987 Christmas compilation albums featuring various artists: ''A Very Special Christmas'' (A&M 3911) and ''Christmas Rap'' (Profile 1247). When Bill Adler first asked Run-DMC to contribute to ''A Very Special Christmas''—the first in a series of various artists compilation albums produced to benefit the Special Olympics—they refused. After Bill—who was then the director of publicity for Rush Productions, which managed Run-DMC—gave the band the idea for "Christmas in Hollis," they changed their minds and agreed to be on the album. (Other contributing artists included Whitney Houston, Sting, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Madonna, and Bob Seger.) David Franklin Reeves Jr. (known professionally as Davy DMX, Davy D or Davy Dee, and also credited under the name David Reeves) is an American musician, DJ, and producer best known for his work in cooperation with Run-DMC, Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys, and Jam Master Jay. An early associate of Russell Simmons and Larry Smith, Dave first made his name in the 1980s. Early life Davy DMX was born in The Bronx borough of New York City on October 3, 1960. When he was ten years old, he moved with his family to Hollis, Queens, a largely African-American community notable as the home of such world-class achievers as Andrew Young, the Rev.
