A novelty song is a type of song built upon some form of novel concept, such as a gimmick, a piece of humor, or a sample of popular culture. Fred Rich
Frederic Efrem Rich (January 31, 1898 – September 8, 1956) was a Polish-born American bandleader and composer who was active from the 1920s to the 1950s. Among the musicians in his band were the Dorsey Brothers, Joe Venuti, Bunny Berigan, and Benny Goodman. In the early 1930s, Elmer Feldkamp was one of his vocalists. Early life Rich was born in Warsaw, Poland. He settled with his parents in New York City and showed an early proficiency for music. He studied at the Damrosch Conservatory of Music and led an orchestra at the Hotel Astor. Career Rich was a pianist and formed his band in the early-1920s. Harry Link
Harry Link (born John Harry Linkey, January 25, 1896, Philadelphia – July 5, 1956, New York City) was an American vaudeville actor and songwriter. He wrote and co-wrote several well-known jazz standards. Career Link studied at the Wharton School of Business but was already publishing songs by his late teens; in 1914, he co-wrote "Along Came Ruth" with Irving Berlin. He attempted a career in acting, appearing in the 1916 film ''The Masked Rider'', but had little luck and soon gave it up for a sustained career in music publishing. In 1929, he co-wrote "I've Got a Feeling I'm Falling" with Billy Rose and Fats Waller. Waller turned the song into a hit; Louis Armstrong recorded the tune, as did many others. Sam Coslow
Sam Coslow (December 27, 1902 – April 2, 1982) was an American songwriter, singer, film producer, publisher and market analyst. Coslow was born in New York City. He began writing songs as a teenager. He contributed songs to Broadway revues, formed the music publishing company Spier and Coslow with Larry Spier and made a number of recordings as a performer. With the explosion of film musicals in the late 1920s, Hollywood attracted a number of ambitious young songwriters, and Coslow joined them in 1929. Coslow and his partner Larry Spier sold their publishing business to Paramount Pictures and Coslow became a Paramount songwriter.
