I, Detective
''I, Detective'' is an American documentary-style series that aired on Court TV (now truTV) from 2001 to 2006. For a time in early 2014, the show returned in reruns on sister network HLN. At first, it was retitled ''Detective Files'', but a month later, the show returned to its original title. The reruns have been repackaged to include updates at the end of some episodes on what became of the suspect(s) or parties involved since the final verdicts. As of late January 2015, the reruns now air on Justice Network. Synopsis Armchair detectives and forensic science junkies get the opportunity to solve real cases. Mia Zapata
Mia Katherine Zapata (August 25, 1965 – July 7, 1993) was an American musician who was the lead singer for the Seattle punk band The Gits. After gaining praise in the emerging grunge scene, Zapata was murdered in 1993 while on her way home from a music venue, at age 27. The crime went unsolved for a decade before her killer, Jesus Mezquia, was arrested in 2003. Mezquia was tried, convicted and sentenced to 36 years in prison. Life and career Mia Zapata was raised in Louisville, Kentucky, and attended high school at Presentation Academy. Bellevue Murders
The Bellevue murders, or the Bellevue massacre, occurred on the night of January 3, and the early morning of January 4, 1997, when Alex Kevin Baranyi and David Carpenter Anderson, both 17, lured Kimberly Ann Wilson, 20, to a park in Bellevue, Washington, US, and murdered her. Afterwards, they entered her family home and murdered her father Bill Wilson, his wife Rose Wilson, and their other daughter, Julia Wilson. Both Baranyi and Anderson were convicted and sentenced to serve four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. Although the motives behind the murders were unclear, the boys exhibited psychological disturbance when they were brought in for questioning. When Baranyi was questioned about his motives, he calmly replied that he wanted to kill someone because he was "in a rut". Roger Kibbe
Roger Reece Kibbe (May 21, 1939 – February 28, 2021) was an American serial killer and rapist known as the "I-5 Strangler". Kibbe found all but one of his victims on freeways around Sacramento, California. In 1991 he was sentenced to 25 years to life imprisonment for the death of Darcie Frackenpohl. Criminal investigation and incarceration Kibbe was arrested in 1988 for murdering Darcie Frackenpohl the previous year. He was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. In 2003, he accompanied prosecutors and detectives to a dry creek he remembered to try to find the body of Lou Ellen Burleigh, whom he had killed in 1977. In 2007 a detective searched the area again. Donald Arthur Piper (born May 11, 1961) is an American murderer and suspected serial killer convicted of killing two women in hotels around West Des Moines and Clive, Iowa in 1993 and 1997, but is considered a suspect in four other killings. Stella Maudine Nickell (née Stephenson; born August 7, 1943) is an American woman who was sentenced to ninety years in prison for product tampering after she poisoned Excedrin capsules with lethal cyanide, resulting in the deaths of her husband Bruce Nickell and Sue Snow.
