''I'm a Big Girl Now'' is an American sitcom that aired on ABC from October 31, 1980, until May 8, 1981. The series, from ''Soap'' creator Susan Harris and producers Paul Junger Witt and Tony Thomas, was created and developed as a star vehicle for Diana Canova, in an attempt to capitalize on her success playing Corinne Tate Flotsky on ''Soap''. The theme song, "I'm a Big Girl Now", words by Leslie Bricusse and music by George Tipton, is sung by Canova. In the motion picture industry, a star vehicle (or simply vehicle) is a film written or produced for a specific star, regardless of whether the motive is to further their career or simply to profit from their current popularity. It is designed to optimally display that star's particular talents or personal appeal. The term is also applied to stage plays and television programs. Tony Mordente
Tony Mordente (born December 3, 1935) is an American dancer, choreographer, actor, and television director. Career Born in New York City, Mordente attended the High School of Performing Arts and made his professional dance debut at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts. Soon after he joined the ballet company at Radio City Music Hall, where he was discovered by Michael Kidd, who cast him in the 1956 Broadway musical adaptation of the Al Capp comic strip ''Li'l Abner''. Mordente was then featured in the Broadway (1957) and West End productions and film version of ''West Side Story'', during which time he met his future wife Chita Rivera, who played Anita in the original Broadway cast. Barbara Benedek (born 1948) is an American screenwriter best known for co-writing the 1983 film '' The Big Chill'', for which she received a Writers Guild of America Award and several award nominations. Career Benedek was a psychiatric researcher prior to becoming interested in screenwriting. Her first entertainment industry job was as sitcom storywriter and editor for Witt/Thomas/Harris Productions. Her first film screenplay was for the 1983 comedy-drama film '' The Big Chill''. For her work on the film she received, along with co-writer Lawrence Kasdan, the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1984. Noam Pitlik (November 4, 1932February 18, 1999) was an American television director and actor. In 1979, Pitlik won an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for his work on the ABC sitcom ''Barney Miller''. Early life The son of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Pitlik, he was born in Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Central High School, Gratz College, and Temple University. Career Pitlik began his acting career in a Western series on WCAU in Philadelphia. In 1951, he was part of the set design and construction crew for the Philadelphia Experimental Theater.
