''I'll Sleep When I'm Dead'' is a 2016 Grammy-nominated documentary film about American DJ and producer Steve Aoki. It debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival and was released on Netflix on August 19, 2016. It received a Grammy nomination for Best Music Film in 2016. Background It was directed by Justin Krook and was produced by David Gelb, Matthew Weaver, Happy Walters and Matt Colon. Production of the documentary started in 2014, during the time when Aoki's '' Neon Future'' album was released. A Facebook Live interview with Aoki was conducted by Katie Couric in support of the release of the documentary on August 24, 2016. David Gelb
David Gelb (born October 16, 1983) is an American film director and co-founder of Supper Club, a production company. He is most known for his documentary work on the subject of food and cuisine, including the 2011 film '' Jiro Dreams of Sushi'', the Netflix series '' Chef's Table'' and ''Street Food'', and the 2021 film '' Wolfgang''. Adam Michael Goldstein (March 30, 1973 – August 28, 2009), known professionally as DJ AM, was an American disc jockey (DJ). Born in Philadelphia, Goldstein became interested in deejaying as a child after watching Herbie Hancock perform his 1983 single " Rockit". Goldstein developed a drug addiction as a teenager and was sent to the controversial rehabilitation center Straight, Incorporated. After he left the center, his drug problems became worse; he was addicted to crack cocaine for several years in his early twenties. After he attempted suicide in 1997, Goldstein became sober and later sponsored other addicts through Alcoholics Anonymous.
