Hélène Franco
Hélène Franco (born in Lons-le-Saunier, Jura) is a French magistrate and politician. She is the general secretary of the '' Syndicat de la magistrature'', the left-wing magistrates' labour union. She was close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the Socialist Party (PS) and she followed him to form the Left Party when he left the PS in November 2008. In 2009, she was selected to lead the Left Front list in the East East or Orient is one of the four cardinal directions or points of the compass. Lons-le-Saunier () is a Communes of France, commune and capital of the Jura (department), Jura Department, eastern France. Geography The town is in the heart of the Revermont region, at the foot of the first plateau of the Jura massif. The Jura escarpment extends to the east and south, while to the west lies the plain of Bresse and to the north extensive vineyards. The river Vallière (river), Vallière runs through the town, rising in a typical Jura blind valley not far away, at Revigny. It has been conduited since the 1960s on grounds of hygiene, since sewage outlets run into it. A small section remains in the open air near the parc des Bains, and only a single bridge (the pont de la Guiche) remains. The town is approximately equally placed between Besançon, Dijon, Bourg-en-Bresse and Geneva, though the last of these lies on the other side of the Jura massif. 2009 European Parliament Election In France
European elections to elect 72 French Members of the European Parliament were held on Sunday 7 June 2009. Due to the entry of Romania and Bulgaria in the European Union in 2007, the number of seats allocated to France was revised from 78 to 72 seats, a loss of 6 seats. France now represents only 9.8% of all European MEPs compared to 12.5% in 2004 and 19.8% in 1979, following the first European election. The turnout in European elections in France has almost always declined, with the sole exception of an increase in 1994, falling from 60.7% turnout in the 1979 election to 43.1% in the latest election in 2004. The Left Party (French: ', PG) is a democratic-socialist political party in France, founded in 2009 by Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Marc Dolez after their departure from the Socialist Party (PS).
