Härjedalen Municipality
Härjedalen Municipality (, , no, Herjedalen kommune) is a municipality in Jämtland County in northern Sweden. Its seat is located in Sveg. The municipality roughly, but not exactly, corresponds with the traditional province Härjedalen. The municipality was created in 1974 and is one of two in Sweden with the name of a province (Gotland Municipality is the other). It consists of nine original local government entities (as of 1863). Geography With a total area of , it is Sweden's fifth largest. However, it is largely wilderness, and the municipality is sparsely inhabited. For comparison, the municipality covers as much territory as Uppsala County and Stockholm County combined, but those two counties have over 2,000,000 inhabitants. Vemdalen () is a village situated in Härjedalen Municipality, Jämtland County, Sweden with 542 inhabitants in 2010. Vemdalen has been developed as a skiing center. There are three popular ski resorts close to the Vemdalen; Vemdalsskalet, Klövsjö/Storhogna and Björnrike. Vemdalen Church (''Vemdalens kyrka'') was erected in 1624 and moved to its present site in 1763. The church building was constructed of wood and covered with wood shingles. A free standing bell tower was erected in 1755. The foundation consists of natural stone. The church has an octagonal floor plan. The church pulpit is carved by Jöns Ljungberg (1736-1818). Funäsdalen
Funäsdalen is a village located in Härjedalen Municipality, Jämtland County, Sweden with 890 inhabitants in 2010. Funäsdalen is situated in western Härjedalen near the Norwegian border. Funäsdalen is the site of Härjedalens Fjällmuseum which provides exhibits relating to mountain farming and Sami culture. Funäsdalen has long been a gathering place for Sámi people. The museum buildings were designed by architect Jörgen Grönvik. Inside the museum there is a permanent exhibition of work by sculptor Emil Näsvall (1908-1965). Adjacent to the museum is Fornminnesparken. This open-air museum provides a display of historic buildings dating from the 16th century to the 19th century. Sveg () is a locality and the seat of Härjedalen Municipality in Jämtland County, Sweden with 2,547 inhabitants in 2010. Overview Sveg is the largest urban area in Härjedalen and the fourth largest in the county of Jämtland. The Ljusnan river flows through the city. Sveg is located on Riksväg 84 which runs from Hudiksvall in Gävleborg County to the Norwegian border where it connects with Fylkesvei 31 providing a route to Røros. The addition of railway lines, Orsa–Svegs Järnväg between Orsa and Sveg in 1909 together with connection line from Sveg to Brunflo in 1922 and between Sveg and Hede in 1924, supported the development of large forest companies in the area.
