''Hysterical'' is the third album by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. It was released in September 2011. History Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's album ''Hysterical'' was released on September 12, 2011, in Europe, Japan, and Australia, and September 20 in the United States by Wichita Recordings. The album was produced by John Congleton and features cover art designed by Maya Pindyck. It was the last album to feature long-time backing vocalist Robbie Guertin. The band released "Same Mistake" and "Maniac" as singles for download from their website. A music video for "Maniac" made by Belgian director Pieter Dirkx was released on September 14, 2011. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (sometimes abbreviated to CYHSY) is the musical project of American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Alec Ounsworth, active since the early 2000s in and out of Philadelphia. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have released a total of six albums. Their self-titled debut album appeared in 2005 and their most recent, '' New Fragility'', in 2021. History Early work Ounsworth first started writing songs during high school, and by 2003 was playing small gigs and pursuing various opportunities to get his music heard. Working in his basement studio in Philadelphia, he would test new material on acoustic guitar at a weekly, two-song slot at a drag performance at local venue L'Etage. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. Alec Ounsworth
Alec Ounsworth (born December 1, 1977) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and frontman of indie rock band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. He is also a member of The Pelican Picnic and Flashy Python. His first solo album, '' Mo Beauty'' was released October 20, 2009, on Anti- Records. History Ounsworth was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in Mount Airy, Philadelphia. Around his mid-teens, he started writing and recording music — a hobby that would stay near to him throughout his academic career at Connecticut College. In college, he shared a dorm room with Lee Sargent during their first year. They would both graduate in 2000. Sargent, who had a special interest in Ounsworth's songs, contacted him in 2004 via Friendster about starting a band. Pieter Dirkx
Pieter Dirkx (born 24 February 1984) is a Belgian film director and painter. His short film ''Bento Monogatari'' premiered in the Cinéfondation program at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Dirkx was nominated for the Cinefondation Award at the same festival that year. He is also known for his production of The Geometry of Beetles (2009). Biography Pieter Dirkx first studied painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp before starting film studies at Sint-Lukas Brussels. His first short in film school was ‘The Geometry of Beetles’, about a lonely man who considers his framed insects to be his only friends. For his graduation project, Dirkx made ‘Bento Monogatari‘. It tells the story of Yvonne, a woman whose marriage has lost its spark. She tries to win her husband's attention by trying to drag him into the world of Japanese pop culture. Robbie Guertin
Robbie Guertin is a former keyboardist/guitarist/backup vocalist for the indie rock band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and a drummer/vocalist for the band Radical Dads. History Robbie grew up in Belmont, Massachusetts and went to Belmont High School. He attended college at Connecticut College along with the other members of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah prior to the group's formation where he studied art. Robbie is featured in The Warhol Economy: How Fashion Art & Music Drive New York City in regards to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Robbie was also the primary art director and often the artist for all of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's album and single covers, as well as several concert posters. The first album's artwork was a collaboration with artist Dasha Shishkin. Maya Pindyck
Maya Pindyck (born 1978) is an American poet, scholar, and visual artist. She is director of writing and a professor at Moore College of Art and Design. Biography Pindyck grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, United States and Tel Aviv, Israel, attending K-12 schools in both Boston and Tel Aviv. She is Jewish, and was raised secular. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in fine arts and philosophy from Connecticut College. She has an Master of Fine Arts in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College, and a PhD in English education from Columbia University's Teacher's College. Her chapbook ''Locket, Master'' earned her a fellowship from the Poetry Society of America. She has shared that creating visual art is what first led her into poetry. Wichita Recordings is an independent record label located in London, founded in 2000 by Mark Bowen and Dick Green. Its most notable signees include Bloc Party, The Cribs, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Best Coast, Los Campesinos! and Peter Bjorn and John. The label signed Clap Your Hands Say Yeah for a UK distribution deal for the group's debut album. They also signed the UK producers Simian Mobile Disco for the UK. A DVD magazine under the ''Uncut'' brand was published quarterly from 2005 to 2006. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population.
