''Hypothetical'' is the fifth studio album by British progressive metal band Threshold. The album was released on 20 March 2001. This is the first album to feature current drummer Johanne James, who had previously played with the band on tour. Threshold (band)
Threshold are an English progressive metal band formed in Surrey in the late 1980s. History 1988–1992 Threshold began their career in 1988, initially playing covers of metal groups like Ratt and Testament. As they continued playing together, they began to write their own songs, and eventually stopped playing covers altogether. Early recordings were released locally on cassette under the band name "If Not, Why?". They played their first gig at The Compasses in Egham, Surrey, with Jon Jeary on vocals and Ian Bennett on bass. In 1992, they signed their first record deal, and after adding vocalist Damian Wilson to the group alongside guitarists Karl Groom and Nick Midson, bassist Jon Jeary and drummer Tony Grinham, produced their first commercial recording, "Intervention," which was released on a Dutch progressive rock compilation album. Progressive Metal
Progressive metal (sometimes shortened to prog metal) is a broad :Fusion music genres, fusion music genre melding heavy metal music, heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud "aggression" and amplified electric guitar, guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or "pseudo-classical" compositions of the latter. One of these experimental examples introduced to modern metal was djent. InsideOut Music
Inside Out Music is a German independent record label originally based in Kleve, North Rhine-Westphalia, and dedicated to the publication of progressive rock, progressive metal and related styles. In 2009, it formed a partnership with Century Media Records and moved its base of operations to Dortmund, also in North Rhine-Westphalia. In August 2015, Century Media was acquired by Sony Music and became its premier label for progressive music. History The label was founded in 1993 by Thomas Waber and Michael Schmitz and started its publications re-issuing albums of new American prog metal acts like Symphony X and Shadow Gallery for the European market and then signing important prog artists like Steve Hackett. Karl Groom
Karl Groom is a British guitarist and record producer. He is best known as a founding and the only constant member of the progressive metal band Threshold. His production and mixing credits are mainly with progressive and power metal bands. Musician Groom is the guitarist of Threshold, having formed the band in 1988. He has since produced and released eleven studio albums and is currently signed to Nuclear Blast. In addition, a live DVD entitled '' Critical Energy'' was released in 2004 whilst on the Inside Out Music label. Groom also played guitar in Mercy Train, Shadowland, and Strangers on a Train, all during the mid-1990s. In 2017, he played all acoustic guitars on Galahad's ''Quiet Storms'' album. Producer Groom works from his own Thin Ice Studios since 1990. The recording facility was originally located in Berkshire, but moved to Surrey in 1995. ''Clone'' is the fourth studio album by the British progressive metal band Threshold, released in 1998. It is the first album with the long time singer Andrew "Mac" McDermott and the final one with the drummer Mark Heaney. In October 2012, Nuclear Blast released a "Definitive Edition", including three bonus tracks. The album also comes closer than any other by the band to presenting a loose storyline through its songs, describing how the genetic manipulation of humans leads to the development of telepathy, and how these enhanced humans leave the earth to colonize other planets, eventually returning to Earth centuries later. ''Critical Mass'' is the sixth album by British progressive metal band Threshold. It was recorded in early 2002 and released in September. It is also the last album to feature original bassist Jon Jeary, who left immediately after the release. Johanne James
Johanne James is the drummer for British progressive metal band Threshold. He joined the band officially, replacing Mark Heaney, in 2001, to record the album ''Hypothetical'', which occurred after having toured with the band in support of the albums ''Extinct Instinct'' and '' Clone''. He also fronts the three-piece band Kyrbgrinder, in which he is the vocalist and the drummer. He is also the drummer for Symphony of Pain. He has been awarded Best Drummer by the Classic Rock Society five times, in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2014.
