Hyles Siehei
''Hyles siehei'' is a moth of the family Sphingidae. It is known in southern and eastern Turkey, Armenia, northern Syria, northern Iraq and northern Iran. The wingspan is 65–70 mm for ssp. ''siehei'' and 55–65 mm for ssp. ''svetlana''. Adults of ssp. ''siehei'' are on wing from late May to June in one generation. Adults of ssp. ''svetlana'' are on wing from late April to late May (with a peak in mid-May), also in one generation. The larvae of ssp. ''siehei'' mainly feed on the seed- and flower-heads of '' Eremurus'' species, such as '' Eremurus himalaicus'', ''Eremurus olgae'', ''Eremurus robustus'', '' Eremurus krudica'' and ''Eremurus stenophyllus'', but have also been recorded on the seedheads of '' Asphodelus'' and ''Asphodeline'' species. Larvae of ssp. ''svetlana'' have also been recorded feeding on the flower- and seedheads '' Eremurus'' species, especially '' Eremurus sogriganus'', ''Eremurus inderiensis ''Eremurus'' is a genus of deciduous perenni ...

Moth
Moths are a paraphyletic group of insects that includes all members of the order Lepidoptera that are not butterflies, with moths making up the vast majority of the order. There are thought to be approximately 160,000 species of moth, many of which have yet to be described. Most species of moth are nocturnal, but there are also crepuscular and diurnal species. Differences between butterflies and moths While the butterflies form a monophyletic group, the moths, comprising the rest of the Lepidoptera, do not. Many attempts have been made to group the superfamilies of the Lepidoptera into natural groups, most of which fail because one of the two groups is not monophyletic: Microlepidoptera and Macrolepidoptera, Heterocera and Rhopalocera, Jugatae and Frenatae, Monotrysia and Ditrysia.Scoble, MJ 1995. The Lepidoptera: Form, function and diversity. Oxford, UK: Oxford University Press; 404 p. Although the rules for distinguishing moths from butterflies are not well establishe ...

Eremurus Krudica
''Eremurus'' is a genus of deciduous perennial flowers in the family Asphodelaceae. They are also known as the foxtail lilies or desert candles. They are native to eastern Europe in ( Russia and Ukraine), and temperate Asia from Turkey to China. The inflorescence consists of a tall floral spike whose individual flowers extend their anthers around the stem axis as in the bottle brushes. Depending on the species, the spike consists of many densely-arranged, small flowers in shades of orange, yellow, white, pale pink or red-orange. The grey-green, straplike leaves grow in a tuft from the succulent root crown. Eremurus is known for its thick, fingerlike roots, which grow from a central growth point. The blooming spike is notably tall and relatively narrow, rising from 3 to 9 or 10 feet above the foliage, depending on the variety. These plants are mainly native to western and central Asia, although ''Eremurus thiodanthus'' is endemic to the Crimea. Cultivation ''Eremurus' ...

Asphodeline
''Asphodeline'' is a genus of perennial plants in the family Asphodelaceae, first described as a genus in 1830. It is native to the eastern Mediterranean region and the Middle East from Italy and Algeria east to Iran.Dobignard, D. & Chatelain, C. (2010). Index synonymique de la flore d'Afrique du nord 1: 1-455. Éditions des conservatoire et jardin botaniques, Genève. ''Asphodeline'' has fleshy roots and fragrant, starry flowers that are yellow in May to June. It grows up to 4 ft in well-drained soil. Its foliage is blue-green and grassy, with tall, narrow flower spikes. It takes at least three years before newly planted seedlings flower. The yellow flowers always make an interesting addition to the late-spring garden. The individual flowers on the spikes open in a seemingly random order, and do not last long, being replaced quickly by other flowers. ;Species # '' Asphodeline anatolica'' Tuzlaci - Turkey # '' Asphodeline baytopiae'' Tuzlaci - Turkey, Syria # '' Asphodelin ...

Asphodelus
''Asphodelus'' is a genus of mainly perennial flowering plants in the asphodel family Asphodelaceae that was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. The genus was formerly included in the lily family (Liliaceae). The genus is native to temperate Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian Subcontinent, and some species have been introduced to, and are now naturalized in, other places such as New Zealand, Australia, Mexico and southwestern United States. Many asphodels are popular garden plants, which grow in well-drained soils with abundant natural light. Character The plants are hardy herbaceous perennials with narrow tufted radical leaves and an elongated stem bearing a handsome spike of white or yellow flowers. ''Asphodelus albus'' and '' A. fistulosus'' have white flowers and grow from high; '' A. ramosus'' is a larger plant, the large white flowers of which have a reddish-brown line in the middle of each segment. Etymology The genus name is derived ...

Eremurus Stenophyllus
''Eremurus stenophyllus'', the narrow-leaved foxtail lily, is a species of flowering plant in the family Asphodelaceae, native to central Asia. It is an herbaceous perennial growing to tall and broad, with narrow strap-shaped leaves. Racemes composed of small yellow flowers appear in summer. The flowers darken to brown from the base, forming a two-tone effect with age. The specific epithet ''stenophyllus'' is derived from the Greek ''stenos'' (narrow) and ''phyllon'' (leaf) to give "with narrow leaves". Retrieved 3 December 2018. This plant is grown as a garden perennial for a sunny border, and has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Though hardy down to , in colder areas it benefits from the shelter of a wall. Two subspecies In biological classification, subspecies is a rank below species, used for populations that live in different areas and vary in size, shape, or other physical characteristics (morphology), but that can successfully inter ...

It is a very tall, narrow plant with a stem high, and leaves as long as and wide, the widest in its genus. The deciduous leaves can vary from a bright green to a bluish-green in color. The inflorescence grows to in length and is covered with many deep to pale pink or white flowers, across. At the base of the flower is a brown blotch with a green keel. The lower flowers have long pedicels, with shorter ones higher up. The flowers, as many as 700 to 800 of them, bloom in June. By the time of flowering, the leaves will usually have already shrivelled. The Latin specific epithet ''robustus'' means “sturdy, growing strongly”. Sphingidae
The Sphingidae are a family of moths (Lepidoptera) called sphinx moths, also colloquially known as hawk moths, with many of their caterpillars known as “hornworms”; it includes about 1,450 species. It is best represented in the tropics, but species are found in every region.Scoble, Malcolm J. (1995): ''The Lepidoptera: Form, Function and Diversity'' (2nd edition). Oxford University Press & Natural History Museum London. They are moderate to large in size and are distinguished among moths for their agile and sustained flying ability, similar enough to that of hummingbirds as to be reliably mistaken for them. Their narrow wings and streamlined abdomens are adaptations for rapid flight. The family was named by French zoologist Pierre André Latreille in 1802. Some hawk moths, such as the hummingbird hawk-moth or the white-lined sphinx, hover in midair while they feed on nectar from flowers, so are sometimes mistaken for hummingbirds. This hovering capability is only known to ...
