Hyde Park Corner Tube Station
Hyde Park Corner is a London Underground station near Hyde Park Corner in Hyde Park. It is in Travelcard Zone 1, between Knightsbridge and Green Park on the Piccadilly line. History The station was opened by the Great Northern, Piccadilly and Brompton Railway on 15 December 1906. It was the connecting station between the two original companies, the London United Railway and the Piccadilly and City Railway, who amalgamated after Parliament demanded the entire line from Hammersmith to Finsbury Park should be built as one scheme. The original, Leslie Green-designed station building still remains to the south of the road junction, notable by its ox-blood coloured tiles; it was until June 2010 used as a pizza restaurant, and since 14 December 2012 it has been the Wellesley Hotel. London Buses Route 13 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between North Finchley bus station and Victoria station, it is operated by RATP Dev Transit London. History In the 1930s route 13 ran from Hendon to London Bridge with STD-type buses allocated to Hendon (AE) garage. The allocation was split between Cricklewood and Hendon garages. Hendon-Golders Green was reduced to Monday to Friday peak hours and Saturday afternoons only during World War II, then withdrawn completely by the 1950s. New AEC Routemasters were introduced to the route in 1963, by which time it was shared between Hendon and Rye Lane garages. In January 1970 the route acquired a Muswell Hill allocation and was cut back from London Bridge to Aldwych, before being extended from Golders Green to North Finchley in 1978, replacing 2B. London Buses route 137 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Streatham Hill and Marble Arch, it is operated by Arriva London. History In the 1930s, STL buses were used on this route which ran from Highgate to Elmers End. The AEC Routemaster buses which operated route 137 since 1 November 1964 were replaced by one-person operated Wright Pulsar Gemini bodied DAF DB250s on 10 July 2004, ending a remarkable forty years of service New Routemasters were introduced on 6 December 2014. The rear platform remains closed at all times except for when the bus is at bus stops. On 15 July 2017 route 137 was permanently curtailed to Marble Arch and no longer serves Oxford Street. London Buses route 74 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Baker Street station and Putney, it is operated by London General. Proposed withdrawal In June 2022, TfL launched a consultation on a range of bus cuts which included the proposed merger of route 74 and 430, but it would be shortened to South Kensington to reduce duplication with services 2 and 13. With the merger, the affected portion from West Brompton, via Warwick Road, Creswell Gardens and Onslow Gardens would no longer run. On 23 November 2022, it was announced that these changes would not be going ahead. London Buses route 52 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. It runs between Willesden garage and Victoria bus station, and is operated by Metroline. History Route 52 began on 28 March 1923, running from Raynes Park to Ladbroke Grove. The service was changed many times, on 13 Feb 1924 it ran from Wormwood Scrubs to Tooting and later on, on 9 April 1924 the route was revised to run Ladbroke Grove to Victoria. It was extended to Mill Hill in 1932. Later, some services were extended on to Borehamwood on Monday to Saturday peak journeys where it was changed several times: in 1951, it was withdrawn from Warwick Road and Drayton Road to Elstree Way Hotel, but extended back on 3 February 1953, and further extended to Brook Road on 3 February 1954. London Buses route 38 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Clapton Pond and Victoria bus station it is operated by Arriva London. History Route 38 was introduced on 16 June 1912 as a Monday to Saturday route between Victoria and Leyton Green via Angel, Dalston, Clapton and Lea Bridge Road and between Victoria and Epping Forest on Sundays. It was operated from Leyton garage, which opened on the same day. In 1913 a 38A was introduced, taking over the Sunday service and operating between Victoria and Epping Forest. World War I restrictions saw many changes to routes 38 and 38A including withdrawals over certain sections for short periods. London Buses route 36 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between New Cross Gate and Queen's Park, it is operated by London Central. History Route 36 dates back to 1911 when London General Omnibus Company commenced operating between Queens Park and Victoria. By 1934 it had been extended to Hither Green. On 24 August 1961, a gun and five boxes of ammunition were found under the rear seat of a 36A bus in Peckham garage. The gun was identified as that used to kill Michael Gregsten and wound Valerie Storie in the 'A6 murder case', for which James Hanratty was hanged. The 36B was cut back to Peckham and renumbered route 136 in March 1994. History Route 23 was introduced on 18 July 1992 between Westbourne Park station and Liverpool Street bus station from First CentreWest's Westbourne Park garage.
