''Hybrid'' is the debut album by Canadian guitarist Michael Brook in collaboration with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. It was released in 1985 on Editions EG. A specialist in timbre and texture, Brook pioneered the infinite guitar—a guitar outfitted with a feedback transducer to produce non-decaying sustain of any note—which makes its first notable appearance on this album. Michael Brook
Michael Brook (born 1951) is a Canadian guitarist, inventor, music producer, and film music composer. He plays in many genres, including rock, electronica, world music, minimalism and film scores. His collaborations with musicians around the world have made him "one of the most sought-after producers in the music industry." Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Brook lives in Los Angeles. He is the creator of the Infinite Guitar. Career Brook studied music and electronics at York University and worked as an engineer at the Grant Avenue studios, then owned by the Lanois brothers. Here he worked with Brian Eno, The Edge, Jon Hassell and Harold Budd. In 1985 he released his first solo album ''Hybrid'', containing instrumental tracks with Indian and African elements. Infinite Guitar
The Infinite Guitar is a modified electric guitar created by Michael Brook, as a way of allowing a note to be held with infinite sustain (hence the name). It consists of an electronic circuit that takes the signal from a standard guitar pickup, amplifies it, and feeds it back into a separate pickup coil. When set up and used correctly, the result is a continuous sustained note that can be used as is, or treated to create new sounds or emulate traditional instruments. In addition to his own instrument, based on a Tokai copy of a Stratocaster, Brook produced two other Infinite Guitars. One belongs to Daniel Lanois, and the other belongs to The Edge of U2, who used it to record "With or Without You" from 1987's ''The Joshua Tree''. Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno (; born Brian Peter George Eno, 15 May 1948) is a British musician, composer, record producer and visual artist best known for his contributions to ambient music and work in rock, pop and electronica. Music For Films III
''Music for Films III'' is the third entry in Brian Eno's "Music for Films" series. Unlike entries in the past, this record features tracks credited to Brian Eno, Roger Eno, Michael Brook, and Harold Budd among others, with Brian Eno involved with the production of all tracks. Several different versions of this album exist. The record and cassette release featured 15 tracks, while the original CD release contained the same tracks in a different playing order. In 2005, an updated CD, featuring two extra tracks, new artwork, a different playing order and sequencing by the group Marconi Union was released. Various tracks from ''Music for Films III'' were incorporated into the soundtrack for Al Reinert's 1989 documentary '' For All Mankind''.
