Hyacinthe (actor)
Louis-Hyacinthe Duflost (15 April 1814 – 8 May 1887), known as Hyacinthe, was a French actor and operetta singer. Life Born in Amiens, he became a comic actor very early in life – his father was wigmaker to the magician Louis Compte, whose troupe he joined aged seven. He was part of several companies, including the Ambigu, the Vaudeville and the Variétés. In 1847 he moved to the company of the Palais-Royal, where he remained until his death and appeared very regularly in plays by Eugène Labiche. His reputation was partly founded on his large nose, remembered by Parisians long after his death. He lived in Montmartre with his wife and children, most notably during the siege of Paris, when he joined the 32nd Battalion of the Garde Nationale aged 60. Amiens
Amiens (English: or ; ; pcd, Anmien, or ) is a city and commune in northern France, located north of Paris and south-west of Lille. It is the capital of the Somme department in the region of Hauts-de-France. In 2021, the population of Amiens was 135,429. A central landmark of the city is Amiens Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in France. Amiens also has one of the largest university hospitals in France, with a capacity of 1,200 beds. The author Jules Verne lived in Amiens from 1871 until his death in 1905, and served on the city council for 15 years. Incumbent French president Emmanuel Macron was born in Amiens. The town was fought over during both World Wars, suffering significant damage, and was repeatedly occupied by both sides. Auguste Anicet, later Auguste Anicet-Bourgeois (25 December 1806 – 12 January 1871) was a French dramatist. He was born in Paris. The first play to bear his name is ''L'Ami et le mari, ou le Nouvel Amphitryon'', a vaudeville in one act. It was produced in 1825, when the author was still in his teens. Over the course of his career he was credited in the writing of nearly 200 plays, as many as ten a year. However the nature of theatrical collaboration at this time was such that the extent of his contribution to any given play is debatable. In fact it is known that he assisted Alexandre Dumas in the writing of several plays (''Térésa, Angèle, Le Mari de la Veuve, La Vénitienne''), sometimes without acknowledgement. He is the subject of an anecdote in Dumas's "''Comment je devins auteur dramatique''" ("How I became a Dramatist"), published in 1833 in ''Revue des Deux Mondes''. ''The Sofa: A Moral Tale'' (french: Le Sopha, conte moral) is a 1742 libertine novel by Claude Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon. It was first translated into English in the spring of 1742 in an edition published by John Nourse and Thomas Cooper. This translation has been attributed to Eliza Haywood and William Hatchett. The story concerns a young courtier, Amanzéï, whose soul in a previous life was condemned by Brahma to inhabit a series of sofas, and not to be reincarnated in a human body until two virgin lovers had consummated their passion upon the sofa he "inhabited." The novel is structured as a frame story in an oriental setting, explicitly evocative of the ''Arabian Nights'', in which Amanzéï recounts the adventures of seven couples, which he witnessed in his sofa form, to the bored sultan Shah Baham (grandson of Shehryār and Scheherazade).
