Hustling America
Hustling America is a three part television series. It is presented by Alexis Conran. This is similar to Conran's UK show The Real Hustle, in the case that he goes around scamming people and creating Proposition Bets with them. It features Conran travelling across America retesting old scams by famous con-artists such as Titanic Thompson. The first episode took place in New York, the second in Texas and the third in Las Vegas. Episodes New York Conran travels to New York and tries out a birthday bet. Testing to see if in a group of 30, that 2 or more people will share a birthday. He plays table tennis against a professional (with coke bottles). Conran attempts to remove the cork from a wine bottle with his shoes. Finally he places an eating bet against world champion food eaters. His eating partner has a twin, giving Conran the edge when the twins switch offstage. Alexis Conran
Alexis Conran is a British actor, writer and presenter on TV and radio, who currently hosts the weekend afternoon show on Times Radio. He is perhaps best known for co-hosting the BBC Three show ''The Real Hustle'' from 2006 until 2012. He was born in south Paris, France, and moved to Greece when he was a child. Conran won ''Celebrity Masterchef'' 2016 on 29 July, beating Louise Minchin and Jimmy Osmond in the final. Early life Conran was born in Paris to a father who was a gambling addict and started to get into debt. He turned to crime and became a thief and conman, eventually getting arrested. When Conran was 7 years old, his parents got divorced. He was then raised by his mother with the help of her parents. He is of Greek heritage. The Real Hustle
''The Real Hustle'' is a BBC British television series created by Objective Productions, Alexis Conran and R. Paul Wilson for BBC Three. The show demonstrates confidence and magic tricks, distraction scams and proposition bets performed on members of the public by hosts Alexis Conran, Paul Wilson and Jessica-Jane Clement. From series 10, entitled "New Recruits", Jazz Lintott and Polly Parsons joined the hustlers. Several episodes of the series state that all marks have been genuinely hoodwinked, and that any money lost is returned to them after filming. The BBC's website states that "The marks featured in the show have no idea they are being scammed. They have either been set up by friends and family or think they are taking part in a different TV show." Titanic Thompson
Alvin Clarence Thomas (November 30, 1893 – May 19, 1974) was an American gambler, golfer and hustler better known as Titanic Thompson. Thompson traveled the country wagering at cards, dice games, golf, shooting, billiards, horseshoes and proposition bets of his own devising. As an ambidextrous golfer, card player, marksman and pool shark, his skills and reputation were compared to "Merlin himself". Writer Damon Runyon allegedly based the character Sky Masterson, the gambler-hero of "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" (on which the musical ''Guys and Dolls'' is based), on Thompson. In 1928, Thompson was involved in a high-stakes poker game that led to the shooting death of New York City crime boss Arnold Rothstein, then called the "crime of the century". Brian Zembic, nicknamed the ''Wiz'', born , is a magician and high-stakes gambler specializing in blackjack and backgammon. In the late 1990s, he became famed as 'a man who would do anything to win a bet'.
