Hungry Lions F.C. are a South African football club based in the small Northern Cape town of Postmasburg. They currently play in the National First Division, earning promotion after winning the 2020–21 SAFA Second Division. History Hungry Lions was founded in the 1980s by Stefaans Basie‚ who is still the owner and chairman. After initially playing friendlies and once-off tournaments, they entered competitive leagues in 2000, working themselves up from local leagues, then the SAB League, until around 2004 they were promoted to the SAFA Second Division. Griqua Park
Griqua Park (currently known as Windhoek Draught Park for sponsorship reasons) is an 11,000-capacity multi-purpose stadium in Kimberley, South Africa. It is mainly used for rugby union matches and it is the home stadium of provincial Currie Cup side . The Super Rugby side also played some matches at this ground. Griquas relocated to the stadium from their former De Beers Stadium home in 1991, when the stadium was known as Hoffe Park. It was named after Chas Hoffe, the head manager of Spoornet who owned the ground. Despite initially having only two stands, much ground development was done during the mid-1990s under the leadership of then-president Andre Markgraaff, increasing the stadium's capacity to 11,000, as well as adding several suites. Kimberley, Northern Cape
Kimberley is the capital and largest city of the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It is located approximately 110 km east of the confluence of the Vaal and Orange Rivers. The National First Division (NFD), officially known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest league of South African club association football, football after the South African Premier Division. Both the NFD and South African Premier Division are organised by the Premier Soccer League. Postmasburg
Postmasburg is a town in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. Location The Town is located approximately 170 km east of Upington. The town is north of Griquatown and west-south-west of Daniëlskuil. History Originally a station of the London Missionary Society called Sibiling, it became a Griqua village with the name Blinkklip. It was proclaimed a town on 6 June 1892 and named after the Reverend Dirk Postma (1818-1890), founder of the Reformed Church. The town achieved municipal status in 1936. SAFA Second Division
The ABC Motsepe League, previously known as the Vodacom League between 1998 and 2012, was founded in 1998 as the current Second Division and the overall third tier of South African football. The competition is regulated by SAFA, and until 2012 had been sponsored by mobile telecommunications company Vodacom. It features 144 teams in total, divided into 9 divisions, borders decided by the 9 geo-political provinces of South Africa: Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu Natal, Northern Cape, Western Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West.
